Comrags returned again for the Fall 2009 after not participating in the Spring 2009 edition of Fashion Week in October. They are a long running staple of the Toronto fashion scene and are celebrating 25 long years in the business. Their shows are always a crowd favourite and never disappoint. Joyce Gunhouse and Judy Cornish have been around for 25 years because they have a very strong style and loyal customers.
This season had a very English countryside appeal with all the knits, plaid and twill. The colour scheme of rust, burgundy, charcoal, black, grey and blue added to that effect. Typically, they sent out many of their easy to wear and very flattering dresses in all kinds of fabric treatments, including their signature crush. In addition wide leg pants were paired with jackets.
I noticed there was some more draping than I normally see at a Comrags show. They kept it to tops. Some had enough coverage to be worn on their own and others were worn over singlets. The Whisper thin grey knits looked so soft and comfortable.
I loved the black burlap pieces. There was an amazing 3/4 length black jacket that was a little bit sheer and had slightly puffed sleeves. The burlap shift dress was very cute too but I can see a slip being necessary for the not so daring types. The last 10 looks were all crush dresses in the most beautiful colours: red, emerald, grey and green dark teal.
Kudos to the neckpieces by Andrea Shewchuck, which in addition to the colour palette helped to evoke the Fall season perfectly.
