Theatre Pics September 17-23

As next week is the first big week of the theatre season, there is not a great deal to brag about in the theatre world. Here are a few that are worth a look at:

Here Lies Henry by Daniel MacIvor and Daniel Brooks. The story of a liar that finally tells everyone the truth. MacIvor's wit and charm are both very present in this one man powerhouse. Tue-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2:30 pm (and Oct 8 and 15 at 7 pm). Buddies in bad Times Theatre

Reefer Madness the Musical by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney. A 1930's propaganda film about the dangers of marijuana (that became a stoner classic for its absurd depiction of 'reefer') gets a musical adaptation to it. Not sure how great this one will be but you kind of have to want to go for curiosity's sake. But only if you've seen the movie! (And perhaps with certain libations coursing through your veins). Wed-Sat 8 pm, Sep 30 midnight. Hart House Theatre

I am not a Dinner Mint by Trey Anthony and Rachael-Lea Rickards. The newest work by Da Kink in My Hair's writer (who co-wrote and directed this one) gets its remount after a strong run at the Harbourfront Centre. It may not be as polished as its 'Da Kink' predecessor but this play about how women are treated and feel in relationships (told through monologues, vignettes and song) could very well be the AA of relationships. Runs to Oct 15 at the Diesel Playhouse Theatre Tue-Sat 8 pm, Sat,Sun 2:30 pm
