20080124_aqiwidget.jpgWeather? Check. Traffic along my route? Check. Breathe in the fresh air, or put on the HEPA mask? Hmmm.

Mac users that like widgets now have one more desktop button to glance at before closing the laptop and heading outside to walk, ride, or drive. An improved Ontario Air Quality Index (AQI) Widget harvests info from the provincial Ministry of the Environment's posted data and displays the most recent rating for a location of your choice in a compact colour-coded button on your desktop.

It's a simple one, and a nice addition to my growing collection of useful, Toronto-centric widgets.

I've been using the traffic camera for about a year in a half now. Works awesome... now if we could see whats going on in the subway. ;)

My only critisicm for this widget is the choice of colours. Really dark colours (like the blue depicted) make it difficult to read the black text.

I have a PC...

PC users can use the RSS feed:

Not as flashy, but just as useful :)

People actually use Dashboard on their Mac? Really? =)

Jerrold on January 24, 2008 at 10:36 AM

^^^ for sure. The traffic one is an essential for me. Custom live route visuals in an instant!

To be honest, I haven't fired up my Dashboard in months. Superfluous part of the OS for me. I'll give the traffic cam a try though.

What other Toronto-centric widgets do you have? I do love my widgets :)
