Heads up to Toronto-area drivers (especially commuters) that are also Mac users on Leopard & Tiger (sorry PC users, you'll have to do it the old fashioned, clicky way on the web)!

If you haven't seen it already, you should download and install the latest version of the Toronto Traffic Camera Widget. It's pretty simple and straightforward. What you get is a live, automatically updating view of your drive on Toronto's major highways - displayed on your desktop. You set which of 220 cameras you want it to display, and the cycle timing. Brilliant (if you can find an alternate route when those roads are looking more like parking lots than highways).

And as you can see, I'm already looking forward into the New Year, and also hoping that it will actually be 11°C on Sunday!

Hipsters can't have it all you know. So just a heads up for us regular people, that use a PC/Windows, Yahoo! Widgets has some decent MTO camera widgets: http://widgets.yahoo.com/search/?q=Toronto. It's fun to take a look sometimes.

Hipster what? I wish my Mac (a work laptop) were even the slightest bit hip :)

Is it just me, or is the default weather widget off by as much as 5 degrees sometimes? I prefer to use webclippings to get the feed directly off the weather network site. Just a tip if anyone else is having that problem...

Yup, the default is usually off here too...The Weather Network actually makes a widget for OS X check it out here: http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather_centre/wcdesktop

Yep. The default weather widget is pretty, but dumb. I use the one from accuweather.com -- much more, well, accurate.

you can actually fix the weather widget by clicking the "i" and changing the location to "Toronto, Canada(Ontario)" - had the same problem myself, maybe another Toronto is the default (Toronto, Ohio anyone?)

Thanks for the weather widget fix tip, Anna. I just got my Mac recently and only now am starting to use and explore the widgets. I was a little confused about the snow on a sunny day being reported. :P

It's still useful to me to be able to see the traffic conditions at times, even though I don't have a car... but what I really like about this widget is the ability to display scenic webcams around Ontario. Some show nothing but the Parliament buildings sure are beautiful lit up right now!

I created a version of this widget for the iPhone. It is called Toronto Traffic and is in the navigation category on iTunes. See http://Pavlidis.ca/software/iphone for more info. The widget is still available at mark.pavlidis.org but will be moved soon to Pavlidis.ca. If you like or have problems with either please let me know.
