Photos of Icycle 2011
The Dufferin Grove Ice Rink was home to one of the more wacky cycling events of the year on Saturday evening as the 16th annual Icycle Race demonstrated, once again, that with a little will and some studded tires, it's possible to handle a bike in the most slippery of conditions. Organized by the Bike Joint's Derek Chadbourne with help from the Bike Pirates and Leah Hollinsworth, the proceeds from the event went to Peter McKenzie, the cyclist who was hit on the Bloor Viaduct just before Christmas.
It's slightly mind boggling to witness the more adept cyclists carve out turns on the ice surface, but perhaps the most impressive feat this year belonged to the unicyclist who deftly navigated the slippery conditions with ease. Here's a selection of photos from this year's edition courtesy of Martin Reis, who has many more on his Flickr page.

I mean, since bikes can go much faster, and you have such a small window of time to bailout in case things go pear shaped, I would much rather do that on a unicycle.
Either way, these people are braver than I am.
Ps. - Unlike the spring roads, nothing a Zamboni won't fix in 20 minutes.
You are wanted under the bridge. Troll.
