Pillow Fight League 9 @ The Mod Club

20070426_totm_tanja.jpgIf you follow my posts, you know I love the PFL!

Tuesday night these vicious vixens return to The Mod Club for a few rounds of mayhem, antics, and of course, plenty of pillow fights!

On the line is a shot at the PFL title against the seemingly invincible Champain, in Montreal next Saturday. This #1 Contender Match pins the ramdrunkcious Boozy Suzy against the rising star Ursula Anvil.

On top of the usual revelry, the PFL will be celebrating a recently announced television deal with Eddie October and Al Berman. This should be added incentive to see these home-town girls before they become superstars and you're watching them from the bleachers. The Mod Club has great lighting and fabulous sight lines, so don't miss it!

I just read an interesting article about these guys at www.thespecial.ca. Seems like there is a lot of conflict within the organisation.

Funny how reputable news organizations like The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Sun, and The Toronto Star - all of which ran articles on the PFL this week - have not found any news-worthy "conflict." The Special is not objective, balanced journalism - they actually declined to speak to any current fighters in the PFL to get a fair and honest article. Their editorial policy is based on Conflict and Sensationalism - and if there isn't any, they Create It. They actually do it quite well, I might add...

I've gotta agree with "PFL".

Calling "The Special" news is like calling The Daily Show news...

Is the PFL endorsing the Toronto Sun as a "reputable news organization"...

PFL above says that the Special article is not fair or honest. He/ she addresses why it is not fair, but only raises the accusation about honesty gratuitously. I've read the article and it seems the dude in charge corroborates everything that is said... What claims in the article are NOT true?

I seem to remember a few quotes by Stacey P. Case. Isn't he a member of the PFL?

Funny how predictable, safe, hack news organizations like The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Sun, and The Toronto Star - all of which ran articles on the PFL this week - are always adverse to covering "conflict" that hasen't been sanctioned by The New York Times. All of these publications played it safe and never bothered to even pose the challenging questions this website appears to have raised. The PFL has worn out it's welcome with Toronto's hipsters and scenesters although these 40-year-old reporters didn't seem to bother talking to many of them. I thought the Special's article was pretty balanced. Sensational, yes but what do you call the covers of The Sun and the rest? Speaking of policies based on Conflict and Sensationalism - isn't that what the PFL does? They actually do it quite poorly, I might add...

PFL 9 was off-the-hook last night. thanks to the sold out Mod Club audience for the electric, euphoric atmosphere. you are the reason why we - fighters, refs, crew, management - do this, and you make it so worthwhile for all of us! thanks! now we're off to montreal for a World Title Defense! Boozy Suzy VS the Champ - CHAMPAIN!

being somewhat affiliated with the PFL and knowing all of the inside dirt (or for the most part lack thereof) i know the girls who did the interview with the special and they are full of shit...they didnt leave the league because it was unfair, they left because they were drama queens who couldnt handle the fact that the show is about the girls as a collective... the article is just a pathetic attempt at trying to nurse their wounded ego after they realized that the league didnt crumble in their absense.and the fact that they try to imply that they were asked to wear skimpier costumes is rediculous....one of the girls had her costume altered repeatedly because she felt it didnt show enough. the league isnt perfect, but i stand behind it

I also spoke to the girls and they had told me that The Special had left out some of their claims because they felt that it could ruin the entire PFL organization. They said the The Special's only interest was to open up a discussion within the community about the PFL. I think the article accomplished that based on these posts.

well if they wanted a well rounded story they should have contrasted the "we were exploited" angle the two girls were working and interviewed some of the current girls, maybe asked them how they felt about such claims. to me it just seems like sour grapes...the pfl is becoming more and more successful and the girls are jealous.... one of them wanted to rejoin but had already burned the bridge in favour of bitching about the pfl for attention. its so childish

i'm one of the refs of the montreal roller derby league and this is the first time that i've checked out the pfl. i gotta say that i'm loving the way that you guys do your thing. ALL of the refs and ALL of the derby girls can't wait to come out after our match and support.

We didn't need The Special article to make us accountable. those two fighters leaving allowed us to re-organize the PFL in a more positive way almost immediately. i bet i can speak for the whole league - fighters, refs, management - that we all breathed a sigh of relief once they were both gone.

we immediately set about to create a system so that Drama is ideally kept to a minimum in the League, except where it matters - On The Mats During A Pillow Fight. if those two attempted to try out the way things are organized now (6 page questionnaire, real tryouts conducted by real trainers, a 90 day probation period, and a vote by current fighters and management), they would not have made it into the pfl.

we're still not perfect, but...no organization is. i'm thrilled with everyone in the league, and i am very proud of each and every one of us.

ps Boozy Suzy beat Champain in Montreal and is the new PFL World Champion! Congrats Suzy!
