Canada's Wonderland Has Record Attendance

Being a kid in Toronto, summer time meant going to Wonderland. A lot.

At a very young age, I knew that Wonderland totally kicked the asses of La Ronde and Marineland when it came to roller coasters and general awesomeness. For 12 year-old me, it was pretty much the coolest place ever.

Looks like I wasn't the only one.

The Themed Entertainment Association along with Economics Research Associates reports that Canada's Wonderland had the highest seasonal theme park attendance in North America for the second year running. The park, which opens near the end of next month, brought in 3.2 million people in 2006.

Okay, so it's still over-priced, smelly and hot and the ride line-ups might not feel worth it as an adult, but where else can you eat strawberry funnel cakes and ride The Bat for an afternoon?

What the place needs is a mega-coaster! After a trek down to Darien Lake and more significantly Cedar Point, the coasters at Wonderland suck and my goings to Wonderland have fallen off completely.

Ah, strawberry funnel cake. Goes down easy, comes up easier.

The should lower the prices. These kinds of business thrive on volume... so lowering the prices will ensure that more people will come and spend money on their ridiculously expensive food and drinks.

You know my favourite ride at Wonderland? Swing of the Century. Because I'm old. Seriously, what's better than swinging around in a big circle high above the screaming children and sounds of the arcade? Oh, and the arcade! That's some big time fun.

Sadly, I'm not being sarcastic. My poor back just can't take multiple romps on the Wildebeast anymore.

When it was announced a while ago that Cedar Point bought Canada's Wonderland my enthusiasm was tempered due to the limited land space around the park. Way, way, back in my youth the area around CW was all farm land. What boob at CW let the land go for housing development rather than snapping it up?!

There is that spot of land on the north side of Major Mac, maybe shift a whack of parking over there (double or triple decker parking?) to free up land for a megacoaster.

Well... the rides are fun, but, for me, the waiting times simply aren't worth it. Wait two hours for a two-minute ride (one hour if the weather is crappy)? No way! (And those line jumpers really piss me off.)

Last time I went to Wonderland I saw alot of overweight people with their obese kids in tow, and men in wife beater shirts.
