Stazione Centrale

Posted by Staff / Listed on June 15, 2012 / review policy

Stazione CentraleStazione Centrale is a new Italian comfort food restaurant that takes its train-station theme very seriously--from the business cards, to the vintage train lights and street light post. In terms of food, there's an ever-changing sharing menu, salads, pastas, and appetizers, and while the price might steer towards mid-to-upper scale, but the restaurant's tongue-in-cheek theme lightens the mood.

Perhaps the worst meal ever!! Stale bread then no bread, nice waiter who had no idea of anything on the menu. Disinterested owner and really really crappy food. We all left most on plate but no one thought to ask why. Eat there at your own peril, you've been warned.
Adam / August 21, 2012 at 10:09 am
I agree totally with previous review. We left half way through the meal it was so bad. Avoid avoid avoid

Literally just left and made the mistake of not reading the reviews beforehand. I would have to agree that the service was not up to par, and although the owner greeted us at the door he was very much absent to what was going on in the resturant. We ordered burger-it was alight- and the big g, which was basically gnoici in what looked and tasted like gravy. The drinks were the best part of our visit and with that said they wernt even all that good. All in all It was a disappointing experience knowing that we could have saved a few bucks (far too expensive for what you get) and went to mcdonalds.

I made reservations at Stazione three days in advance and received a call confirming them. When I arrived with my party of 4, there was no reservation waiting for us. The owner, instead of apologizing, or even pretending like he cared, basically said just dismissed the error. When we were seated the service was horrible. The waitress constantly forgot drink orders (cokes, bottles of wine), and brought extra items we didn't ask for. The food was good but nothing worth bragging over. The owner's poor way of making it up their error to us was sending us a couple of biscottis at the end of our meal. We spent over $300 and all they thought to do was send us a couple biscuits. I had almost forgotten to write this critique when a hostess from the restaurant called me 4 days later to confirm the reservation. With all the amazing restaurants on St. Clair West these days with great food AND service, save your money and walk 2 minutes east to Prop or The Rushton.

Great Food.

My boyfriend and I dined here for a romantic dinner. Great atmosphere!

We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

I had the Engineers salad and the braised beef short rib.

Well, where to begin. Awful would be giving too much credit to this place. But the very worst part, even worse than the food, were the owners. They were there..but....totally disinterested. If they survive the year, I will be amazed. 6 of us tried 6 different foods. All beyond bad and not edible. We all left our food, complained, paid way too much and left...never to return.

Did I mention the service was horrible? I find it hard to believe any positive reviews, maybe the owners friends.
Johnson / November 1, 2012 at 02:56 pm
I am very lucky. Just read reviews and cancelled for saturday night. Thank you all for your helpful reviews.

I went with friends a few weeks ago. It was a birthday celebration. A total fiasco. Rather than bore you with what happened, just DON'T GO. There are a million places better in Toronto.

I was recommended to dine at this establishment through a friend of mine and coincidentally I had spent time with one of the partners in my teens growing up in the northern end of the city. I am very critical when it comes to restaurants specifically the value and taste one receives for what was ordered. In most cases I stop in to try a new place and typically I leave unsatisfied.
Well I have to tell you that was I extremely satisfied and pleased during my meal at Stazione last night. I had ordered the Fagioli soup which I learned was prepared by the mother of one of the partners that night, out of this world!!! A meal in itself with a salad is fine. I added a pasta dish, yes more pasta, was running the following morning, the dish was excellent with a salty cod in a slight tomato olive oil garlic sauce. Even though they perhaps gave me the large size I still ate it all. I would highly recommend this place to dine out at. I do agree with the other comments below, most restaurants have their challenges upon opening however our service was very good especially with refilling the water. I love my water. Oh and did I mention that we had ordered the warm olive appetizer during the meal. This dish is a must. $100 including tip and wine for 2.
Will be back.

I agree with David...had a fantastic time at Stazione....and no Ms"Amy Pataki"...I"m not one of the owner friends...I don't even know who he is and frankly...Idon't need to know to feel good about get a life Lady!!!!!!!!!!!
Armado Pronesti replying to a comment from Amy Pataki / November 17, 2012 at 11:12 am
This is an absolute travesty of the truth. I happen to be one of the partners and I can assure that I am not disinterested as to what happens in our establishment. It is your review that I find suspicious, reckless, irresponsible and without merit. If you cared to verify your facts, both partners where not present that day. We encourage and appreciate all of our customer reviews and work towards implementing and improving your dinning experience.
Like any other new restaurant, we have growing pains, but I can assure you, as of today, our food, restaurant atmosphere, music can't not be beet on St.Clair. I know that for a fact because I've been part of restaurants on St.Clair since 1991, and been an integral part in developing them. So chances are, anything worthy of tasting on St.Clair, I've had a direct or indirect hand in it. I respect that you have an opinion and you are entitled to your review, but this was not a review, this was a personal attack on us and your tone and false allegations make me question your motives. I find it strange that you ordered six items, but did not mention even the problem with one in your attack, or the fact that we only take reservations for parties of six, and there was no reservation for six, or herd one complaint from a server on behalf of any customer. I know competition is fierce on St.Clair, but lets play fair here, who's interest are you protecting?

Dediar Lacot replying to a comment from Bob / November 17, 2012 at 06:24 pm
Really Bob and Adam?? What a coincodence that both of you are writing negative reviews on the same day, and 2 minutes apart, on a Tuesday morning. Check out Johnson's comment "hey's so very lucky"...he actually took the time to leave a review, although he didn't even dine at Stazione.
Give me a break who ever you are, get a life please. The place is 5 star dining at 3 star prices, and nobody can compete with the talent there on St. Clair. Weak cowardly people only know how hide and deceive. Please do not listen to this so called person, they are there to sabatage because they can't compete.

I had an excellent experience! Our waitress was extremely pleasant and knew the menu well. Everything was delivered to us promptly. At first our bread was brought out with a really fresh pesto sauce, then we shared a grilled calamari and salad that we both really enjoyed. I had the "Conductor" which was a pasta with mussels and cod - amazing to say the least! The vibe was great, jazz music playing most of the night. It got pretty busy by the end of our meal and by the chatter and laughing, it seemed everyone else was enjoying themselves as well. I would definitely go again!
Tijana / November 18, 2012 at 01:56 pm
The first time I went here was a few weeks ago on a Friday night for a friends birthday party. I had such a wonderful time there!I ordered "the commuter" the salmon was cooked perfectly and the presentation looked spectacular. My friends enjoyed there dishes as well, especially "the Flat Back" burger and "the Bandid" ribs and fries- this one WAS WOW! The flavour simply delicious! Must have.
The staff was very friendly, made the birthday girl feel extra special and the drinks were amazing! The owner was very kind and offered us some free shots. The atmosphere is great! Lots of laughter and cheer. I will be going there for my birthday in early Dec! Cant wait :) Will definetly return and recommend.

Well...why is everyone so sensitive. Reviews are reviews. All restaurants have good days and bad days. I ate there a couple of weeks ago with my friend. Not too impressed...sorry. Don't take it too personally but with the huge choice in T.O., I feel there are many better places to eat. But good luck.
rosebud / December 15, 2012 at 09:12 pm
Not good. We want better for the neighbourhood. Service was poor. Food was good but overpriced and portions are small....I'm not a big eater! 'Been there intention of going again.
Carla / January 1, 2013 at 10:25 am
Ate at this restaurant on dec 31st! It was my first time eating at this restaurant! I really enjoyed the food! My dish was the wet noddle and it was so good! I had a great experience!! The staff was friendly and got us a table last minute on NYE! I was surprised by some of the reviews but I also realize that there are people out there who do have bad experiences but there are also people who are overly critical and never satisfied with anything!

Phil / February 28, 2013 at 12:27 pm
I had dinner there a few nights ago. I guess to each his own as I can read the reviews. For me, not too great. I was expecting a whole lot better as i had actually booked on a very fine recommendation. So if they just had a bad night, that's fine. But for me, I wouldn't return. I am sure they will survive without my business. carry on.
Antonio B / March 21, 2013 at 02:19 pm
Very quiet night I went, and food was poor. Not bad, just not good. I was curious to read other reviews, sorry i hadn't checked before i went

Had a seriously good time last weekend at stazione. I passed by for dinner with a few friends. We ordered several dishes and shared everything. Really good food. Seriously a step above. Spicy mussels, calimari, best burger I've had in years, a fried risotto ball in a rich bolognese sauce and a few bottles of wine. Our waitress was really funny and attentive. Unpretentious, cozy, and very tasty night.Might become our new local.....
Armando / April 9, 2013 at 10:40 am
I went a while ago and did not enjoy. However, i see some more positive reviews so I am considering a second chance. Sound like they have picked it up a notch. Good for them if that is the case.
Unsatisfifed / April 9, 2013 at 11:10 am
I used the Travel zoo voucher I bought for a Friday night dinner with my boyfriend about a month or two ago. I am sad to say I did not enjoy my meal very much.
We started with the fried risotto. It was ok, but I thought the plating lacked imagination (a giant friend rice ball in a bowl of pasta sauce). For our mains the boyfriend had Agnello (Lamb) which he said was cooked perfectly and he quite enjoyed. I had the burger, but was very disappointed. It was oily, and the patty was overcooked and bland. Also and I didn't like the fact the braised brisket was a cold lump of meat on the warmish burger, and the burger was super oily. The bacon jam was delish but a bit overpowering.
Overall I was super disappointed since I had read some good reviews. The service was not that great (but there was only one waitress and we weren't in a hurry) since we arrived around 5:30 (and the restaurant was empty except for two men at the bar drinking) and didn't leave until 8:30 (the restaurant had filled up, but after 3 hours I just wanted to get the heck out of there). I felt like we were forgotten about a couple of times (gave another table bread after we had ordered our food, and then brought us bread when she saw us looking at the other table).
But I think the thing I disliked the most is that the man tending bar was doing shots with the two gentlemen who were drinking at the bar. I have never been to a restaurant where this is done, and it made me uncomfortable...
Finally, when the bill arrived they gave us a bill of what we owed, AND they gave us a second bill of what the meal would have cost without the coupon (this irked me, because it seemed so tacky, like the waitress was trying to get a bigger tip or something). So according to the bill it would have cost us $130 for our meal without the Travel zoo coupon. For $130 I could have had a much nicer meal with better service less than a block down the street. I had such high hopes for this place, but those hopes were dashed when the giant rice ball arrived and dashed further with the tacky double bill system.
This place has potential, and I think with less of the staff doing shots and more of the staff being attentive to customers this place might get better. I can’t say I’d go until I saw a significant amount of good reviews on the place, and even then I’d be hesitant.

Wow what mixed reviews. I went for dinner last week with a few friends- we all had a blast. I thought the food was really reasonably priced for the quality and portions. We shared apps- amazing frsh salad and spicy mussels and calamari. Simple, and flavourful. We all ate pasta- I highly recommend the gnocchi w mushrooms- unbelievably tasty. Tasted the bolognese- the ultimate comforT food w housemade rigatoni. Not many dessert choices. Though we were already pretty satiated we oPted for the tiramisu- also made in house....soooooogooood! Seriousely cannot understand thge negative reviews. We all had a delicious, warm evening. Really love the atmosphere and our waitress was very sweet! We'll be back for sure.

Wandered in on the weekend. Not so hot. Music kept changing volume and tempo throughout evening. Food and drink seemed priced inconsistely. Sloppy slow service. Not so good. Decent ceasar salad, though.

After reading all the negative reviews I was a little bit nervous about bringing my family there for Father Day’s dinner, but since my dad has always wanted to try this place I decided to give it a go. My family lives in the neighborhood and often hear about the restaurant, but I live downtown and had to rely on what I'd found online. We arrived at around 6 pm and got a nice tall table on the patio. The restaurant was already pretty busy, so it took a little longer for the server to get back to our table after seating us, but from then on we had her full attention.
We started with some appetizers to share and they all were great. I usually try to avoid eating bread, but bruschetta was so good that I couldn’t resist having a peace. It was different than what I’m used to, made on some kind of special authentic Italian bread (can’t remember the name of it) and we all thought it was absolutely amazing. We also shared Fallen Flag salad with beets and goat cheese, and a risotto ball that came in a tomato sauce (I think there was meat in the sauce too). It got a little messy when we tried to split the ball into four pieces, but was definitely worth it. My sister insisted on ordering deep-fried calamari and although I’m not a big fan of seafood (looks like this is turning into a picky eater’s review, yes I’m bad! lol), I still ended up having quite a few pieces. It was very tender on the inside and nice and crispy on the outside.
We were pretty full by the time our mains came out. My dad and I got “The Big G”, which is gnocchi with mushrooms and tomatoes. Luckily, I went for a small portion (you get to choose what size you want), because it was very rich and filling, although my dad even after all those appetizers didn’t seem to have any trouble with his BIG “Big G” :) I’m obsessed with mushrooms and there were tons of them, so I enjoyed every bite. My mom ordered the rib dish and said she was satisfied with her meal, and my sister went for the veal chop, which if I remember right was one of the specials that night. It was huge and she wanted to take the rest home, but then of course forgot and left the bag hanging on her chair (which happens pretty much every time she tries to take something home!). We weren't planning to have dessert, but the server brought a piece of Tiramisu for dad on the house and we ended up sharing it. The bill came out to about $200 (my sister and I had a half liter of house white and my mom and dad got a glass of red each, and we also had two coffees). We left at around 8.30 pm and the atmosphere at the restaurant at that point was really nice, everyone there seemed chilled and relaxed. Our server was very professional and even though she seemed busy, every time she came to the table she found time to chitchat. In overall it was a great experience and I’m planning to come back one of the nights with my girlfriends.

I have been to Stazione numerous times and I have always been very pleased! The atmosphere is amazing, very welcoming and the music has always been great. I have tried numerous dishes and have been overall very satisfied. One of the best on the st.clair strip!
MUST HAVES: rice ball, beef carppaccio, mussels, eggplant parm and the calamari! Prices could be seen as a bit pricy but it is worth it and they are very generous with their portions. Staff is always very friendly and attentive. And food sometimes takes a while - so go there with time to enjoy. The food is definitley worth the wait....!!!!

Went there for dinner the other night for the first time and was so impressed. The food is AMAZING. We live in the neighbourhood but closer to dufferin and man will we be making a trip over to that side of St.Clair more often! It was a hot day so we got two salads that were soooo good. They have a lot of apps, salads, sides and pastas in app size so we decided to do tapa style and order a few different dishes. The salads and pastas were amazing. We got the mushroom salad and the house salad that were both so fresh. We also ordered a seafood pasta with clams and sausage, so yummmmy!! And some brussell sprouts and rapini as sides. One of the best meals Ive had in a long time. It is true that the food took a while but we werent in a rush! Cant wait to go back :)

I was invited here thursday with a few friends. Where to start. WE werent greeted for half and hour almos, our drinks warm and our food cold. Our bill took another forty minutes of waiting. Complete disappointment. Ordered the mushroom gnocchi as the waitress suggested and found it cold and mushy. Out ofchicken, out of dessert, cold latte...warm white wine. Dont usually writed these resviews but was really disappointed.

Amazing place!!! Fun vibe, friendly service, delicious food and strong drinks! Friday and Saturday nights are a lot of fun here - many times they get packed and everyone has such a great time with great music. Super fun restaurant/bar!

I will keep it short. Food just okay and service was poor. Maybe more attentive service would have helped a little. First and last

Im surprised at how popular this upscale (yet casual) restaurant is. Was there a few nights ago, the music was great which made it a welcoming atmosphere. I got the bandit which was awesome. My friend got the even better seafood pasta.
Id like to go back soon to try other tastey looking dishes i saw.

I brought my date to Stacione two weeks ago. We were quite nervous since it was the first date but the waitress was fun and cheerful and made us both feel relaxed pretty much right away. It was my first time trying boar pasta and it was unbelievable I will certainly be back just for this pasta. My date was very happy with her beef salad and gnochi. The place has really nice and romantic interior and is perfect for a first date.

Beautiful restaurant. Had a great night here this week w a few friends. We shared several plates -the pizzetti, a few salads and a couple pastas. Really a step above. Good music, great atmosphere and swift, attentive and super friendly service. Really a fun and delicious night. Our new local. Highly recommend Stazione.

By far the best meal for pasta that i have ever had in my life.

Please do try The Wild Baur. You will not regret it. The meat was succulent and the pasta was divine. it costs $23 but it was worth ever dime!

Bill / July 24, 2014 at 06:40 pm
After this much time open i would expect better reviews and improved service. I didnt like it due to really poor food and terible service but that was early on. I looked for good reviews but they are few and far between. The owners should understand that consistency and service are paramount to being a good restaurant, So I wont go back again although i wanted to try again.

Love Stazione on Sy Clair W. Beautiful space, amazing food w unique selections. Well priced wine. Had a huge rib eye, cooked perdectly with a side of garlic rapini. And the service- so friendly and attentive. Our waitress knowledgeable and inviting. Highly recommend checking this place out.
Resident of Atlas Ave / June 19, 2015 at 01:47 am
Stazione is a mediocre restaurant at best as you can tell from the reviews. But one thing I would love to blast them about is their total lack of respect for the neighborhood THEY moved into. Right now I can hear the owner claping his hands and yelling at 1:41 am with the bass and music so loud I can hear it from my house a block away. This restaurant is part of an apartment block so I can't imagine what it must be like for the people right next door. He also knows there is a family with a 1 year old above him as well. What an asshole. They have maybe 6-8 people in there and they are loudest most obnoxious place on St Clair! They do this every night it is warm out till 2-3 am.
massimo / June 29, 2015 at 08:55 pm
I have lived in Corso Italia the past eight years and personally I am so happy this cool little restaurant/bar popped up in my hood a few years ago. I've watched it grow the past few years and I gotta say the food, the service, the atmosphere are all unique and outstanding. The owner, Armando kills it in the kitchen- and all the staff are attentive and sweet and always make me feel welcome. Massive, beautiful salads and the best steak on St. Clair W. The biggest juiciest burger and I highly recommend their grilled calamari served with clans and 'nduja sausage.
I love Stazione. Great decor, food, music and people. Couldn't ask for more.
