Sarah's Cafe and Bar
Sarah's Cafe and Bar has one of the best street side patios on the east end of the Danforth. It's a popular spot for afternoon drinks; and on weekends it's a good local brunch option.

Sarah's Cafe & Bar
nice atmosphere,
Pleasant and friendly service,
BLOODY AWFUL FOOD! Sorry Sheila but it was AWFUL!!
....and the guy who calls himself the "HEAD CHEF" is a rude jerk!
I stopped by Sarah's last night to meet up with my wife and another couple on the patio. I am not a regular at Sarah's but we have been there a few times before, it is in our neighborhood. I ordered a Guinness and the Lobster Risotto. The Guinness was great, the Lobster Risotto was, to be honest, it was awful; soggy, bland and lobster-less. Maybe it was the lighting, but I did not see any lobster, I saw some peas. I was much hungrier than I expected to be after having finished my "main course" ($18 plate of wet rice) so I ordered the Seafood Linguine (another $18 entree). Service was speedy and our server was very accommodating, however to my complete astonishment the “Fresh Pasta” was hot wet and RAW! How do you mess that up? Fresh Pasta only takes 3 or 4 minutes to cook?? The shrimp and the little chopped bits of Calamari?, were overcooked and HARD?, like they had just come out of a microwave or spent too much time in a very hot pan, and the muscles were wet flavorless and very nearly raw. I was disappointed to say the least, and still hungry. The server observed my abandoning of the dish and immediately inquired, offering to wrap-up my entree, I thanked her for offering but explained I was finished with it, I politely explained how awful it was. She apologized and offered to bring me the menu, I decline a third try, explaining how disappointing the wet rice was to start followed by the lack luster raw pasta, with mixed overcooked/undercooked seafood. I reassured her that I had been there before and would return, I complimented her on the service, but was not interested in anything more from the kitchen "tonight". I insisted I would still pay for the food that I declined to take home. She apologized profusely and took the food away. To my complete dismay, the server returned, from the kitchen moments later to inform me the "head chef" ??? wanted me to understand I still had to pay for the food. Puzzled I confirmed with the server that I did in fact insisted that I would pay when she took it away, she agreed "yes I know" and added "but he wanted me to tell you", "YOU HAVE TO PAY!" I paid the $185 bill and tipped the server $30 but next time I treat @ The Pan.
My advice to those planning a visit to Sarah’s The beer and wine selection is good! The atmosphere is great, but the food ………. NOT SO MUCH!
My advice to the management at Sarah’s,… Send the jerk home and hire a real “chef”…. or stick to Pub-fair.
Bad food + Bad attitude = Bad business
The kitchen staff is lackluster and depressed looking and can be heard regularily cursing and shouting. The food sucks. Thats it. If its not over cooked its under cooked. I think the cooks have the skills of Mcdonalds employees. The head chef, is always playing on her iphone. They have 2 dishwashers, one who is hard at work at all times, but speaks broken english, and the other, a lazy slob who they dress up as a bartender on weekends.
The servers, other than 'Alex' as he introduces himself as also have no idea what is going on. The aforementioned bartending dishwasher is slow, and cant offer anything about drinks other than "Its delicious, one of my favourites" and the rest of them are equally as uninformed about their products.
The bathrooms never get cleaned unless you beg for them to do something. I remember one instance where I told them there was no toilet paper in any bathroom and it took 30 minutes to rectify this problem.
The owners husband is also quite a piece of work. He should never be allowed in the restaurant. He often smells, often has stains on his shirts, and is even more often than that drunk and causing problems for his already problem stricken place of business. He tries to help the kitchen by standing in the way, and does not take criticism. One time I recall walking north along Monarch Park to witness him yelling, cursing and swearing at an employee out on the patio(which was full of course) openly discussing flaws with the place and how it was that one employees fault.
If they labelled themselves a "bar" and sold their great drinks on hand, and just dealt with generic pub fare they would do much better.
