Mainsha Restaurant

Posted by Staff / Listed on May 27, 2009 / review policy

Mainsha RestaurantThough plain looking from the outside, Mainsha Restaurant serves up some cheap and tasty West Indian eats. Best is their Toonie Tuesday where you can get a good size order of chicken for pocket change. Mainsha has several locations throughout the city but this is the original location on Eglinton Ave. W., near Oakwood.

this was a terrible review. Whoever did it needs to retire.

A friend offered to buy lunch for me since he was going on a lunch run, so I gave him some money and told him to get me whatever he was getting. He returned with a plastic bag containing two styrofoam containers and drinks as well as my change. It looked plain and filling enough. Lo and behold, I was blown away by the amount of taste that this plain looking meal delivered to my palate and quickly finished the rest of it. The drink looked and tasted like nothing special - mostly sugar and water. However, do not judge this establishment by its looks. If you're looking to get your money's worth, this is the place.

The best $3 dollars you can ever spend in your life at any restaurant is here (mainsha). For $3 you can get rice and chicken and a dring and it makes you very full. At first I thought it looks like a shit restaurant but you have to go inside try it and experience the taste!!!! GO THERE NOW!

This is far the best Jamaican jerk restaurant. I have been to numerous jerk stops all over Toronto. This is the one, do not, and I mean DO NOT go to any other Mainsha locations. Only the one listed here around eglinton and marlee... All these online reviews are BS, basically try every other restaurant posted on this site, then try Maisha and you will see... now it costs $5 for a box of jerk and a juice.

Gotta love how the comments are much more infoemative than the "review". Thanks, commenters!

Don`t go to the one on Dufferin - the server guy`s a jerk who`ll serve the person and two behind you and serve you after. On Tuesday specials they don`t have the food ready & you have to wait an hour to get a special and after 4:30 a lot of times they`ll say they don`t know when the chicken is coming.

3275 Dufferin -don`t go there - on Tuesdays Specials they don`t have the chicken ready for 30 minutes and the serving guy`s a jerk with a chip on the shoulder -he`ll serve the people behind you first and serve you later if he doesn`t like your face. Several late afternoons they `were empty and couldn`t even say when the chicken was going to start cooking - the owner should read this.

The location at Lawrence Square Mall is poorly run - dont go there!!! At peak periods when I go the service is extremely slow. It takes them approximately 4 mins to serve 1 meal and the server is also the cashier, another 1min. They are also frequently out of chicken and rice & peas. This week the only day they had chicken at lunch time was yesterday however after waiting patiently for 10 mins for the 2 people ahead of me to be served the guy announced that they were now out of rice & peas, at 12:15. I love my West Indian people and want to support you however you really need to get your act together. Lawrence Square Mall is a great location, step up or step out.

Lawrence square location is the worst run place I have ever been to... I went there on Tuesday and they had no chicken at noon aka lunch time aka her chicken joint with no chicken... Then on Wednesday they had no rice and peas... I work across the street in case u r wondering who would return to a place that runs out of their main product... LoL ownership needs to take notice fast regarding the poor service... They are lucky that the mall food court options are weak otherwise they would be closed already.

Location at Lawrence Square mall...DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! SERVICE is absolutely terrible and the employees all move at a snails pace. It's clear that they have not been properly trained (if trained at all) in customer service and food service. Even at the busiest times, they show a total disregard for the customer. Most of the time, there is one person working there to do food and cash. Besides the obvious health risk that this poses it further adds to the delay.
FOOD is also another point of concern as they often do not have staple food items such as rice and peas or jerk chicken. This is totally unacceptable especially when this happens between 12pm and 1:30pm which is the peak lunch hour. Often the food quantity and quality are also not consistent. Some days it tastes good, other days it's lacking salt, other days the rice is burnt. Fried plantain is shown in the picture on the menu but is never available! I can never go here and be sure that I am going to love the food because I never know what I am going to get.
MANAGEMENT needs to step up and make sure that they hire the right people, that the staff are trained and know how to handle food properly, how to multi-task, how to be efficient, how to plan so that they always have enough of each food at peak times.
I am Caribbean and it is important for me to support the Caribbean community and small businesses but I cannot with good conscience spend my money at this establishment again. It is poorly managed, the service is horrendous, the staff are unpleasant and the food is inconsistent.
This Mainsha location needs to step up their game or they will not be in business for much longer.

i went to lawrence square food court and the mainsha there was horrible... worst service i have ever seen... one person in the front doing cash and serving... on this occassion they had no rice and peas, only steamed rice and each time the one guy working had to walk to the back kitchen to get the steamed rice which resulted in each customer waiting like 15 mins for their food... it is laughable... do not go to the lawrence square location - trust a sister.

It's really difficult to read these comments especiall if they are true. I'm west Indian (Trini) and it's not usual practice for what is reported here. Most W/I people take pride in their food and their service.

I will be calling the owner and ask them to hire me to turn the place around. Im a Cook/Chef trained under the very best (my mother) and I've been cooking for the last 35yrs. I can guarantee if the Owner accepts my offer to run this place, the comments here will all be retracted within the first Month- guaranteed! Wish me luck.

The Oakwood location is closed down now.

Lawrence Square Mainsha, I ate there for the first time I enjoyed their food! I would recommend.
joe / October 7, 2013 at 11:52 am
I've been going there for years the location at 3275. Food is great but its 12pm I myself and student from the highschool are waiting for the food to be ready, nothing is ready, usually when the other chef is in everything is ontime but this is ridiculous...... I'm ashame to say but "Black People step up"
JOhn / November 9, 2013 at 01:50 pm
Mainsha is the worst. There's a reason it's only $3, trust me stay away from here unless you're on welfare.
SHANELL / November 25, 2013 at 03:02 pm
Mainsha is absoultley wonderful I cry when I eat the food thats how good it is ! sometimes the service can be a little long BUT the wait is bearable,Sometimes when I GO this lady dishes out my food very slowwwwwwwww and i cant be bothered by her.But the mainsha people are like a family I think they're doing good keep up the good work !
SHANELL replying to a comment from JOhn / November 25, 2013 at 03:05 pm
John you're comment was a little bit uncalled for just because some people are on welfare doesn't mean they buy mainsha necessarily :)

I love Mainsha. I go to the ones on Dufferin and Lawrence Square, and yes the service is unpredictable, but for $3 it is totally worth it. #mainshaisdabest

I love the food at their Lawrence Square location. Tastes like home cooked food next to a McDonalds where you pay way more than anything is worth and the stuff is soooo boring and predictable. $3 for a bar b que chicken with rice and peas and cole slaw. Fall off the bone delicious chicken. And the cole slaw is not that mayo runny stuff but a vinegar dresssing. Delicous. Always polite service. I have never had a problem. If one thing is sold out (and does that not tell you something about the food???) then I order something else. Whenever I am at Lawrence Square I go there.

you guys are all talking bs my dads friend is the owner of Mainsha and kings delite although some locations may not have the greatest food or the best customer service when you hire someone you hire them with the expectations that they will follow and meet the needs met in the legal binding contract or agreement however some please just naturally have a bad attitude and you cant change that about them so why i suggest y'all do is instead of bad talking them in reviews why don't u write them a letter or note letting them know the flaws there restaurant has cause if u don't they may not even know #Kae-Leigh-Anne
Ms. Tea replying to a comment from Kae- Leigh-Anne / August 12, 2015 at 03:18 pm
Hi Kae-Leigh Anne,
I would love to write a letter to the owner to describe what some staff are doing to degrade the brand of Mainsha. Do you know where I can direct my letter? I'm sure he is not aware of the terrible things some staff are doing and that the staff blame the owner/management when they don't have food that is on the menu ready for sale, or for rules that some stores have like no kids meals sold unless your kid is in the store with you. I always support this chain and I am more than upset at the treatment I have received lately. Please tell me who I can speak with or write to if you can.

Thanks so much!
