Their daily menu is a what's-what of a typical Chinese take-out, ranging from $5.99 to $12.99. You get what you pay for. Good bets are the Double-Cooked Szechuan Pork and the Singapore Fried Vermicelli. You're given a small glass of soda to help down the dish, and for an extra $1.50, they'll throw in the soup of the day. Hot and Sour soup fails to disappoint, especially on dreary days.
The interior decor is a mish-mash of red and white cube chairs and tables. Walls are plastered with a hodge-podge of "propaganda" posters from the Mao era, albeit tastefully arranged. Servers are prompt, polite, and always on the run. A nice touch is the small plate of napkins and toothpicks they leave for you midway through your meal.
It's open late and makes no pretense. Definitely one of the best oriental joints east of Spadina.
