Louis Authentic Gyros and Souvlaki Take-Out

Posted by Staff / Listed on April 2, 2009 / review policy

Louis Authentic Gyros and Souvlaki Take-OutLouis Authentic Gyros and Souvlaki is a small food stand housed in Louis Meat Market. This is a great concept because customers know they're buying fresh meat. For under $5, you get a massive all-dressed gyro with tomatoes, onions, tzaziki and fries. The guys behind the counter are super friendly and passionate about their food - last time I was there I had a one-hour conversation with them about the art and science of how to make a proper gyro.

I just ate at Louis the other day and it was amazing. I had never tried a Gyro before and then I went to Alessandro's, Messini and Louis during the same week. Alessandro's had better mean than Messini but Messini offered a larger portion. Louis was pretty much the best of all worlds. Large Gyro, great fries (not too much), and the meat was perfectly seasoned. They did theirs a little different because they added greek dressing to the gyro along with Tzatziki. If there was anything that I would change, it would be for them to hold the seasoning salt. I thought that the Gyro was a little salty and it could have done without it. Besides that, it was amazing and I am going back as soon as I can. $3.95 is not too shabby for a huge pork Gyro.

you should ask for hot sauce and feta on the gyro as well!!!

These guys have the best marinated chicken and pork. Then they grill it to perfection. Nice and krispy. Totally old-school butcher turned resto.

Just tried this place last night after already sampling other recommended spots on Danforth (Messini, etc.) Must say, we were not too excited once we saw the layout and the look, but MAN was that some of the best gyros I've ever had. Amazingly tender chicken and pork, and tremendous tzatziki. Absolutely recommended!

How is this place rated so low? they do everything great here and amazingly cheap, unless you are some jerk who is so offended by its simple presentation (you can't judge this place for that) there is nothing wrong with this place.

Use to work there, It's unfortunate the owner, Louie is essentially a cheap asshole that has absolutely no business sense. He does not realize the Goldmine that is his product and does no marketing or renovations to his store. That place could be more popular than messinis, if only he had vision.

Oh but let me tell you. best food on the danforth but beware not to go during the day. they have this realy dirty old greek woman with dirt under her finger nails and she tried to give me meat that was very under done so i know only go after about 7 pm. the two people that work nights are very friendly and clean. the young girl is very pretty and the older greek man makes a sandwhich like its his god given right. so i got smart and only go at night. cheers.

i will never eat here again! ok first off, i was able to get past the old dirtyness of the store when i first walked in. second off when i tried to place my order the old lady working the counter made me wait for her to finish her phone call then she was rude beyond beliefe. besides the beast behind the counter i must say the food is quite tasty but come on with the service. 1/5 for service 4/5 for the food.

First off the comments about the inspection are overblown. A cook made a mistake and left a souvlaki out. The problem was rectified quickly and the cook has since left.

The personal attacks are a little over the top. The business is the 3rd oldest on the Danforth and has been faithfully been serving Toronto since 1970. The food is very good. My children eat here and they serve FRESH meat and fresh cut fries. The prices are terrific. The staff good but all establishment suffer from their employees at some points. The older gentleman is 71 years old and not the way described above.

This is primarily a TAKE OUT establishment and the raw souvlaki is the best in Toronto. The special, going on 22 years is buy 10 and get one free. Awesome place. Please disregard the negative and anonymous comments.

Long standing customer.

Swim spas can also promote healing by providing more oxygen to be hot
tub sales delivered to your home. When considering an indoor versus an outdoor
spa or hot tub that you intend to have more chemicals added every month.

I was a tenant above Louis. Not only is he a horrible landlord the resturant is very unsanitary. I saw health inspecters open the back fridge and there was nothing legal about all the animal parts floating around! Around Easter they hang lamb on rusty old hooks in the back alley (beside the garbage) and let the blood drain everywhere. I have no idea how they are still open. He also has a very bad temper and would slam the door on my face when I asked for simple apartment repairs. It angers me that places such as this are still able to operate.
