Georgia Restaurant

Georgia Restaurant TorontoGeorgia Restaurant is a new Georgian (the former Soviet Republic country, not the American southern state where housing is cheap) restaurant located close to Finch and Dufferin. With heavy draperies and decorations reminiscent of old Tsar-like dining environments, this is the place to go to sample this rather exotic cuisine, such as the chakapuli (braised lamb) or the ghomi (which the menu rather interestingly describes as "the Georgian equivalent of an Italian polenta or Romanian mamaligusta served with slices of suluguni" - I'm convinced. I'll take two). It's barely visible from the main road though, so a little exploring is in order.

I wish I had some comments about food and service, but never given a chance even to eat there!
Reserved a table for 4 on Aug 11, 2012 over the phone and was turned down at the entrance because we were 5 minutes late and our table was given to someone else! Very unpolite host told us that because we were late and there were a line-up we lost our reservation. At the time of our arrival nobody was even waiting and we actually ware waiting 10 minutes before somebody even noticed us!
We never see such redicoluos excuse and will never go there again!

I have finally found some time to visit this second Georgian restaurant that was opened recently. I was eager to see what options I have in Toronto regarding Georgian food. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised at how big and nice is the room. Tables are standing far from each other and there is even a dedicated place for dancing! This whole place is clean and there is a Georgian music in the air. Prices are very reasonable for such a nice place. I was served very fast. Now regarding the food itself: I ordered my favorite Khachapuri, Georgian dumplings, Lemonade 'Kakhuri' & 'Tarkhun', and couple of other dishes. So I was very happy to find out that 'Khachapuri' was very good! Dumplings are OK, as well as other two dishes. And also their Georgian bread is of excellent quality. Both lemonades were also very, very good. This was especially surprising for me as whatever so called 'Georgian drink' I tried before in Toronto they were just not such. Overall, I am eager to further discover this new restaurant.

Just got back home from restaurant. It is a shame to call that Georgian Restaurant. Food is not even close to Georgian. Music, just Russian music. Only Georgian is the name, nothing else.

This is a very good place, with authentic Georgian food.
People who post negative comments are either completely unfamiliar with the culture, or simply never attempted to cook Georgian food in Canada with local ingredients and spices. Hence, their comments can be simply ignored.
Our family cooks Georgian food at home, we are from there and I have to say that at this place they managed to get as close as possible to how it is done back home.
Out of other "Georgian" restaurants around the city I would recommend this place.

Been there today. Very awful place. Another post-USSR banquet hall in the middle of industrial/commercial area on Finch. Interior is usual for this kind of place, nothing new. Small soviet city style in the end of 1980s.

We ordered a bit of everything. Meat was somewhat okay, 3+. The rest of the food tasted like it was cooked over 24 hrs ago and was warmed up in a microwave.

I personally had strong hopes for Adjarsky Harchapuri (National Georgian dish). Did not happen. It was awful.Fat piece of bread with cheese and overcooked egg. Shame.

It is a shame that even new so called "Russian" restaurants can't get their game up to par.

Tea served in metal pitcher, "very classy".

Loved the waitress in Adidas sweat suite, very 1980s of her, lol:-)

We tipped 20% on our bill, did not finish the food and left, after being reminded that the place is closing in 10 minutes and we need to wrap it up.

None of us would ever come back there, nor recommend it to any of our friends.
