Strangest restaurant experience we have ever had! We went to le select about a year ago for the first time. The food was fantastic, and reasonably priced. The strange part was that it was a Friday night and the room we were in was almost empty! The restaurant is divided between two rooms, and there was only one other couple in the room we were in. We didn’t see if the other room was any busier, but it did not sound like it was. The service was not very friendly. We ate quickly, but were the last to leave and felt very rushed out! Again, it was a Friday night, and by 10:30 they had us out and the doors locked! We looked into booking a private function there and the events coordinator was beyond rude to my husband. The corkage fee noted on bringmywine.ca is incorrect, and when he inquired about negotiating a flat corkage fee for the evening she snapped at him, after which she only addressed me when speaking. She also advised we could only have 50 people there, because otherwise we would have to use the entire restaurant which she told us “we could not afford”. Obviously we opted not to go with Bodega for our function, and ended up spending more for better service! We went back about a year later, again on a Friday night, and this time we were the ONLY people in the restaurant! We had an 8:00 reservation, and while we were enjoying our mains, a couple showed up, at about 9:10, and let the waiter know they had a 9:00 reservation. He explained (without apologizing once, offering a discount in the future, or even another restaurant suggestion) that since they made the reservation over the internet, just that day, no one at the restaurant had checked it, and they couldn’t come in and eat because the chef had left for the night. NO APOLOGY!!! We could not believe what we were hearing! A restaurant in downtown Toronto turning patrons away at 9:00 on a Friday night because they sent the chef home. My husband was enjoying the fact that rather than negotiate, or even discuss, a lowered or flat corkage fee, the restaurant was sitting empty on weekend nights! The food was not nearly as good the second time around, and the waitstaff again hurried us out. We are not going back, and don’t recommend it. We are left wondering how this place still exists with chronically empty tables and the rudest events coordinator you can imagine!

I mostly enjoyed my experience at Bodega. The ambiance was comfortable but refined. I found the service to be alright, but the restaurant was a little empty for a Thursday night. The other patrons in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves and ordering lots of food and drink - this contributed nicely to the atmosphere. I would go back again.
