Radar: Rock Docs at The Garrison, Sleigh Bells at the Phoenix, Dinner With Bob Blumer, The Comedy Cabaret

FILM | ROCK DOCS at The Garrison
Tonight, The Garrison hosts an awesome free screening of two great rock docs! Up first is You're Gonna Miss Me, Keven McAlester's 2005 film about Roky Erickson, frontman for the pioneering psychedelic rock band The 13th Floor Elevators. Despite his band's huge impact on the history of rock music, Erickson's life story could easily be described as tragic. The second feature tonight is the 2008 film, Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell. Russell was a cellist and composer who worked in a number of different genres, and has achieved some posthumous fame relatively recently. He was part of New York's experimental music scene in the '70s, and is fondly remembered as having championed The Modern Lovers and The Talking Heads during his time as music director for Manhattan's avant-garde performance venue, The Kitchen. Rare archival footage includes clips of his colleagues and collaborators, including Allen Ginsberg and Philip Glass.

MUSIC | Sleigh Bells @ The Phoenix
Sleigh Bells hits the Phoenix tonight! This duo, comprised of vocalist Alexis Krauss and guitarist Derek Edward Miller, formed in New York several years ago. Both Krauss and Miller had been in other projects (Miller in Poison The Well, and Krauss in Rubyblue), so thier focus and talents were strong and ready for this collaboration. A performance at the CMJ Music Marathon in 2009 put them on the map, and they were signed soon after. They recently released their second album, Reign of Terror and are currently touring in support of it.

FOOD | World's Weirdest Pop Up Dinner With Bob Blumer
If your inner foodie is calling you, don't send it to voicemail - answer the call tonight at The Drake! Canadian chef extraordinaire, Bob Blumer, will be serving up a four course dinner tonight which will include Beef Short Rib done up with a cream curry accompaniment, Japanese fried chicken with Sapporo, and more. Blumer is the host of both "Surreal Gourmet" and "Glutton for Punishment," and this dinner is a fundraiser of sorts for his new Food Network venture, "The World's Weirdest Restaurants." As a special bonus, Bob will be introducing each special dish to the dining room at large as they are served. There will be two seatings, one at 6:30pm and one at 9pm. Bon appetit!
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West)

COMEDY | The Comedy Cabaret
The Comedy Cabaret happens tonight at The Charlotte Room! This event is now in its second year, and tonight will be jam-packed with comic goodness! Tonight's lineup includes: Eman, Robin Crossman, Jon Kane, Danny Freedman, Chris Scian, and many more. This is likely to be a well-attended event, so getting there early might be a good idea. Tonight's host will be Chris MacLean, and DJ Earl the Sqrl will be in the house. Should be fun!
Charlotte Room (19 Charlotte Street) 8PM PWYC
