Radar: Caveman, Hospitality, Volcano Playground, Canada Vignettes (A Love Story), PWYC Weds at Rancho Relaxo, Wild Culture New Vaudeville, Ben Sidran at Hugh's Room

MUSIC | Caveman (Dine Alone) / Hospitality (Merge) / Volcano Playground at The Horseshoe
Caveman are a relatively new band out of New York City that are getting tons of buzz online and elsewhere. They have already shared the stage with newer icons like Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, and old school icons like Blue Oyster Cult! They will be joined on toinght's bill by Hospitality, a Brooklyn-based group, and while one could describe Caveman as simple, lush, and primal, Hopsitality are more edgy, poppy, but also 'economic' in their arrangements. Also on the bill: Volcano Playground, who have a reputation for causing their audience to space out, hypnotized by their variety of atmospheric, shoegaze-influenced rock. A great lineup, for sure!
The Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West) 8:30PM

FILM | Free Favourites: Canada Vignettes: A Love Story
If you are feeling patriotic, and have some time to kill this aft, the NFB Mediatheque has got some animated fun for you! "Canada Vignettes: A Love Story" is a program of short animated films from decades past that might raise a smile, in a nostalgic and kitschy sort of way. These films were intended to entertain, but also educate the audience about Canada's history, and culture.
NFB Mediatheque (150 John Street) 4PM

MUSIC | PWYC Weds w/ 5u5piciou5 Package, Scout, Skymovies at Rancho Relaxo
Rancho's PWYC Wednesdays are raging into 2012 with a vengeance! Tonight's musical offerings include headliner 5U5picious Package, an act that is destined to have many hassles crossing borders and boarding aircraft, but who will make audiences happy with a unique and humorous take on the hip hop thing. Also on the bill are Skymovies, a local solo singer/songwriter act, and Scout, a local indie band who categorize their sound broadly as "psychedelic."
Rancho Relaxo (300 College Street) 9PM

CULTURE | Wild Culture New Vaudeville
An interesting event at the Rivoli tonight: "Wild Culture New Vaudeville" is a high speed variety show, where each act is roughly three to seven minutes, and showcases the "Quizzical & Ultraordinary!" Expect the unexpected from what is shaping up to be a considerable "cast" of performers. What has been revealed of the lineup so far would indicate that there will be rants, comedy, music, and plenty of "[c]ranium compost for the post-holiday blues," indeed! This is an event that is shaping up to be a monthly thing, and the next one is February 8th.
The Rivoli (332 Queen Street West) 8PM PWYC / $10
