Radar: Indie Week, Algoma Book Launch, Barr Brothers, Little Dragon, Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, Rancho Relaxo PWYC Wednesdays, Munchausen

MUSIC | INDIE WEEK LAUNCH PARTY
It's a painfully long stretch between NXNE and Canadian Music Week, so big thanks to the musical gods for Indie Week! This fest runs from tonight's launch until Sunday night, and is somewhat unique because it runs twice annually: once in Ireland, and once in Toronto, and both events are connected, with standout acts from one Indie Week getting special headlining slots in the other. At this evening's launch, there will be a special extended 4AM last call, and bands like TO's These Electric Lives, Belfast's The Beat Poets, Tara Priya from LA and many others will be playing tonight. This should be a great start to a week of great music!
The Hideout Toronto (484 Queen Street West) 7PM $10

BOOKS & LIT | DANI COUTURE IN CONVERSATION WITH JEN KNOCH AT "ALGOMA" BOOK LAUNCH
Dani Couture launches her novel "Algoma" this evening at The Gladstone Hotel. This tale of a 12 year-old losing a sibling, and the subsequent 'going into denial', is an ambitious first novel for Toronto poet Couture, and stellar reviews and feedback are already spreading the word that this is a work to put on your Fall or Winter 2011 reading list. There will be an interview/discussion with blogger and editor Jen Knoch discussing the novel and the author's other interests, plus a slideshow, and more celebratory fun.
Gladstone Hotel Ballroom (1214 Queen Street West) 7PM $5/free with book

MUSIC | PWYC Weds w/ Gelato 4D, Pete Bush and the Hoi Polloi, Dennis Clark
Another happening lineup at Rancho this week for PWYC Wednesdays! Dennis Clark gets the evening going, with his honest and rootsy pop stylings. Singer/songwriter Carlo Mariano follows, with a quirky, slightly subversive alt-folk kind of thing, and Pete Bush and the Hoi Polloi will follow with melodic and aggressive, guitar driven tunes that have a groove! The night closes with Gelato4D a new band that lists My Bloody Valentine, and The Strokes an influences. Should be good!
Rancho Relaxo (300 College Street) 9PM PWYC

COMEDY | Munchausen: Comedy Based on Real Life Stories
An interesting concept for those who like their comedy and improv. A speaker delivers a monologue and a comic cast improvises a scene based on this monologue, often with unexpected, slightly chaotic, and hilarious results. The Munchausen cast includes Cameron Algie, Annie Bankes, Matt Folliott, Adrianne Gagnon, Kirsten Gallagher, Jess Grant, Ken Hall, Ted Hallett, Steve Hobbs, Isaac Kessler, Wayne Molinski, Paloma Nunez, Kevin Patrick Robbins, Mandy Sellers, Kevin Thom, and Kevin Whalen.
Comedy Bar (945 Bloor Street West) 10PM FREE
