Radar: The Last Social Night Ever, The English Beat, Playwrights Canada 2011 Spring Launch, Toronto International Body Image Film & Arts Festival

CLUBS | The Last Social Night Ever !!!
The Social has been a West Queen West hotspot for some time, and also a key venue in TO's electronic music scene, along with the Wrongbar. Word has been out for a little while that the venue's days are numbered, and tonight it becomes official: this is your last chance to party at the Social. There will be DJs, of course, and spirits will be high: everyone in attendance will be pumped to make this a night to remember! A "foam party" is a big part of the plan, so be prepared for mayhem!
The Social (1100 Queen Street West) 10PM

MUSIC | The English Beat
British "second wave" ska masters, The English Beat, play the Mod Club tonight! These guys formed in the late seventies, and have been rocking ever since. Unlike many bands from decades past, they put on a very lively show, and get the crowd dancing, big time. Their club gigs are usually packed, and it's amazing how many great songs these guys have in their 'book'! From the classic, "Mirror In The Bathroom," to their classic cover of Smokey Robinson's "Tears Of A Clown," these guys will deliver a great show definitely worth checking out!
Mod Club (722 College Street) 8PM $23.50 - $27

LITERATURE | Playwrights Canada 2011 Spring Launch
Playwrights Canada Press began as a publishing division of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, but are now a separate entity. They have been an active force in the Canadian theatre scene since the mid '80s. Tonight's launch at The Supermarket will give you a taste of several of the publisher's Spring releases that you may not know about. There will be readings by Judith Thompson, Rita Shelton Deverell, Julie Tepperman, Lois Fine, and more. Free food has been promised, and Theatre Books will be selling books, as well.
The Supermarket (268 Augusta) 7PM FREE

MUSIC | White Lung / Nu Sensae / Pregnancy Scares / Dentata
If you're feeling patriotic, and want to let off a little steam, there's an edgy all-Canuck punk rock showcase going down tonight! It's an all-ages event, with five bands that will deliver some much needed musical energy to get your week kick-started. From the West Coast, White Lung and Nu Sensae will be out in full force, along with Ottawa's Pregnancy Scares. Locals Dentata and Total Trash will round out the bill.
Parts & Labour (1566 Queen Street West) 9PM $9
