MUSIC | 4/20 Bash @ Hard Luck
For some, this particular day holds a special significance. Some use this day to hold a particular variety of peaceful protest, and some use it as an occasion to celebrate. It is those of the latter variety who will be attending a special "4:20 Bash" tonight at The Hard Luck Bar. Billed as a "Chronic Rock Show", you can catch On The Verge, who are hosting this event - known for their trippy sounds and 'stoner rock' vibe. Also on the bill are a host of sympatico bands: The Stormalongs, Laced With Blood, Palace Of The End, and more.
Hard Luck Bar (812 Dundas Street West) 8:30PM $5

FILM | A World of Shorts: A Space Odyssey
NFB Mediatheque has an awesome evening of short films screening tonight, all united by a 'futuristic'/sci-fi theme. Six different recently released shorts, will be shown. This is a diverse selection, from many regions of the world, such as France, Canada, New Zealand, Kenya, etc. Interestingly, all of these films share a dark, desolate view of the future, with clever and suspenseful twists. An ideal way for film buffs to spend an evening celebrating Astronomy Week.
NFB Mediatheque (150 John Street) 7PM $6 / $4 students/seniors

MUSIC | Frazey Ford live in Toronto!
Founder of the rootsy Vancouver band The Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford hits the Dakota tonight, for what promises to be a well-attended show. Her debut solo effort, Obadiah, was released on Nettwerk last year, and has been considered a bit of a departure from her previous work, in that her vocal stylings and writing are leaning more in a "soul" direction. However, the response from critics has been very positive. Highly recommended.
The Dakota Tavern (249 Ossignton Avenue) 7PM $15

LITERATURE | Authors at Harbourfront Centre: Valerie Compton, Philip Kerr, Kyung-sook Shin
Authors at Harbourfront Centre brings you another great evening of cutting edge authors sharing their work with you. Tonight's readings all involve themes of discovery and destiny. Featured readings include Valerie Compton sharing some of her novel "Tide Road", Philip Kerr reads from his latest mystery novel "Field Gray", and Kyung-sook Shin will deliver some excerpts from "Please Look After Mom".
Brigantine Room, York Quay Centre (235 Queen's Quay West) 7:30PM $10 (FREE Under 24/Students/Members)
