CULTURE | Spacing Winter 2011 Release Party
Our friends at Spacing are releasing their Winter issue, and a few libations are thus in order. Established back in 2003, Spacing is published three times a year, and has received the Jane Jacobs Award from the Maytree Foundation and Ideas That Matter. A great event for left wing pinko types! Cover charge includes a copy of the magazine.
El Mocambo (464 Spadina Avenue) 7:30PM $10 ($5 for subscribers)

MUSIC | Thicker Than Blood: A Family Day Affair
A killer lineup makes up "Thicker Than Blood:" a special Family Day blast of indie rock at The Horseshoe tonight. Chang-A-Lang headlines the affair, and this band has oodles of stage presence, while delivering tightly woven aggro-pop gems that contain more than a pinch of humour and irony. Also on the bill are the local talents of Terror Lake, a rawkin' three-piece made up of two guitars and a drummer, plus Elk and Cigarettes.
The Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West) 8PM FREE

MUSIC | Elvis Mondays
With its ear ever pressed to the ground, this long-running showcase is the place to be if you're looking to stay ahead of the indie-rock curve. Tonight's featured bands are Drunk Hussy, Heartbeat Hotel, Alex Low, The Wildcore, and regulars Teen Tits, Wild Wives.
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West) 9PM FREE

MUSIC | Times Of Grace
Times Of Grace is made up of core members up Killswitch Engage, who have taken a new musical direction, fusing metal with other genres such as shoegaze, metal, rock and punk. The first studio recording from the project, "Hymn Of A Broken Man", was recently released to positive reviews, and decent chart placement. Also on the bill are openers Straight Line Stitch, and War Of Ages.
The Mod Club Theatre (722 College Street) 7PM $13
