Radar: King Khan & The Shrines, Art Battle 8, Catch23: Battlemainia!!!, Diamond Rings at the Parkdale Public Library, G20 Photo & Art Show

MUSIC | King Khan & The Shrines
One good thing came from The King Khan and BBQ Show's split -- the return of The Shrines! Much more of a 'show' than the BBQ Show, King Khan & The Shrines is usually a seven piece with saxophones, trombones and organs. They sometimes go by the name The Supreme Genius of King Khan and His Sensational Shrines and after seeing their live show, you'll know why. Gentlemen Jesse & His Men start things off.
Lee's Palace, 529 Bloor St W, $20, 8pm

ART | Art Battle 8
When I think of competitions, for some reason the first images that come to my mind are the horrifying hot dog eating competitions you can find on YouTube. If you haven't seen them - Don't! They'll ruin hot dogs for you. What I don't usually think about is painting competitions. Well Art Battle is celebrating their one year anniversary of painting competitions at The Great Hall. Three rounds of competitive painting. I don't immediately think of this as being extremely interesting to watch, unless their hitting the brushes out of their competitors hands.
The Great Hall, 1087 Queen St W, $10-19, 8pm

COMEDY | Catch23: Battlemania!!!
On the topic of competitions, now we've got an improv battle. Every Friday night, Catch23 takes over Comedy Bar with improv teams going head-to-head. Tonight it's A Young Tom Hanks vs. The Gangly Bits vs. McGooginheim. Make sure to stick around afterwards too for another kind of battle -- a rap battle!
Comedy Bar, 945 Bloor St W, $5, 8pm

MUSIC | Diamond Rings at the Parkdale Public Library
The Make Some Noise series has hosted some pretty awesome shows in libraries, including Fucked Up at the Reference Library. They're keeping the tradition going by hosting an unplugged set from local glam artist Diamond Rings at the Parkdale branch. Diamond Rings is supporting his upcoming debut LP, Special Affections which comes out at the end of the month. This is a free show so it will no doubt be packed so I would highly suggest getting there early.
Parkdale Public Library, 1303 Queen St W, Free, 8pm

ART | G20 Photo & Art Show
Everyone has kind of quieted down about all this G20 stuff and it's kind of nice. However, if you miss having debates with everyone you come in contact with you might want to head to Studio 561. They're hosting a G20 Photo & Art Show. If you want your own cell phone pictures, or videos to be featured, go a head a post them on their Facebook wall and they might be featured.
Studio 561, 561 Bloor St W, $5-10, 7pm
