Back to Our Roots: Traditional Music in Classical Disguise

In a concert that’s representative of Toronto’s multiculturalism, Flautas del Fuego will take the audience on a journey around the world through music. Flautas del Fuego will use music and storytelling to bring the audience from the noisy bustle of Rio de Janeiro to the Hungarian plains, from Irish pubs to the Korean Gyeongbokgung palace and back to the colours of Mexico. This concert will also be featuring the Canadian premier of Samuel Zyman’s Fantasía Mexicana for two flutes. If you’re curious for a new and different experience in live music, or are looking for a place to unwind after work, this concert is perfect for you!

In addition to a Canadian premier, this program includes masterpieces by Astor Piazzola, John Corigliano, Béla Bartók, László Király, Gary Schocker and Franz Doppler, as well as Flautas del Fuego’s own arrangement of Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6 for flute and bass flute.

The musicians:

Flautas del Fuego is comprised of the two talented local flautists Alheli Pimienta and Izabella Budai, who are known for their virtuosic technique, warm personalities and the welcoming atmosphere they bring to every performance. Joining these musicians will be pianists Oszkár Morzsa and Chad Spears, who will be flying up from Florida for this performance.
