What was the point of hosting the Pan Am Games? No one is going to go in person. No one is going to watch on TV. We wasted our money on it to be honest, and nothing that was supposed to be constructed for the tournament has been completed.

Can we please fix the transit system or the Gardiner before we host such trivial events?

Jay, I totally agree. And what about cleaning Lake Ontario?? I am always telling people to imagine how INCREDIBLE Toronto would be to live if two things happened: the lake was clean, and the transit system was better. The "blue flag" program stating the lake is ok for swimming is a complete farce. I went last summer, after reading about blue flag, with the intention of swimming, and then when I got to the beach the lifeguard told me about how they only test the surface of the water, and when you walk on the bottom to enter the lake it stirs up all the crap (literally) that is on the bottom so you're basically swimming in waste. This city has bigger fish to fry than the Games on increasing the quality of life for residents, and also the attraction factor for tourists. Imagine if some money were spent on improving "the basics" (environment, transit, roads) rather than flashy band-aid solutions like the Games.

Let's not be a bunch of cynical crumuddgen's for once in the history of our city.

Go and watch some top level athletes and enjoy it, celebrate countries coming together to compete.

We get to show off our city. We get to welcome the world to our city.

No, it's not the Olympics or the World Cup. But we're not London and we're not Rio. So instead of whinging and whining, go buy a ticket. Go support it. You might just end up having a good time.

So, I guess you haven't seen or been affected at all by the road construction downtown and on the east side because of Pan Am to improve transit and roads. And wait, so what you're also saying is that the money from tourism into this city from all over the America's won't be good for the city either? The city is cleaning up in order to improve itself for this upcoming event. Take a moment to look at the good that is happening in this city vs. your ability to swim in the lake. I don't disagree with you, but your argument has no merit in this context.
