A number of intriguing new spots are pushing construction to be open before the end of the year. At the corner of Bellevue and Nassau, taking over the combined space formerly home to Left Feet and Heart on Your Sleeve, the conveniently named The Bellevue has put up a sign saying Howdy to the neighbourhood. There's no indication exactly what to expect here so if anyone has some info please add it to the comments below.

As we move into November, a number of new Opening Soon signs (or liquor license applications) have appeared in windows around Toronto. On King West near Tecumseth an old industrial building is being restored into a new bar/restaurant called The Garrison. Wait, didn't that just open on Dundas West?

There's plenty of construction on Queen West these days as a number of restaurants and cafes are prepping to open. Near Queen and Tecumseth, the former Irie Food Joint is slated to be transformed into Harlem Underground, a sister restaurant and lounge to owner Carl Cassel's Harlem on Richmond. A sign on the front window promises opening day sometime in November.

It's deja vu all over again as some familiar names appear on this week's list of what's opening soon in Toronto. The Auld Spot, a popular pub among locals on the Danforth, will aim to replicate that success at their under-construction second location on the south side of College near Clinton. By the looks of things, they're probably a good 1-2 months away from pouring their first pint.

Even with a moratorium in place preventing any new bars, cafes or restaurants in the area, Ossington is about to get a new watering hole. Siouxie Collins, from the owners of LeVack Block who applied for its liquor license before the new rules went into effect, has been under construction for some time but was getting its windows washed yesterday when I passed by. I peeked inside and everything looked just about ready to go so expect the newspapers to come down any day now.

A number of stylish new restaurant and clubs are slated to open their doors soon. This is pretty typical this time of year as there's always a last minute rush to host parties, private dinners or otherwise ride the money wave during the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Roosevelt Room at 330 Adelaide St. West is one such spot, currently under construction but slated to open in September. It's billing itself as a high end supperclub with video intallations from local artists, live cabaret and Chicago-style jazz dinner theatre.

Another slate of intrepid entrepreneurs are opening new businesses in the coming weeks. One of these, Sam James, hoped to launch his eponymous cafe today but told me it's now looking more like next weekend. James, it turns out, has serious cafe cred - having honed his craft at Manic, Hank's and Dark Horse on Spadina. He plans to bring things back to basics at this Harbord/Clinton spot formerly home to the Once Upon a Time book store.

Another slate of interesting new stores and restaurants are in mid-construction and prepping to open later this summer. In Kensington Market, Grilled Cheese is getting ready to mix bread and cheese together in the space formerly home to waffle emporium Goed Eten. Not sure why, but there's something about this location that just wants to focus on one product.

Shuttered restaurants and abandoned storefronts continue to transform as summer progresses. In Little Italy, the space formerly housing the disappointing Arthurs is finally showing signs of life. The recently unveiled liquor license application signage at 501 College Street portends the soon-to-be-debuting French-minded Les Fauves.

With summer officially here, a number of new businesses are clamoring to open while the weather is good. At the corner of Queen and Broadview, Sushi Bar takes over in the space formerly occupied by SOMA Restaurant and Lounge. It seems that in a matter of months Riverside has gone sushi-mad as Sushi Bar joins the almost open Sushi District as the new competition in the 'hood challenging the much loved Sushi Marche.

Despite the recession and recent deadpool talk, there are plenty of entrepreneurs about to open new restaurants and stores in Toronto. Among these is Hoof Cafe, in the former spot of the Chelsea Room on Dundas West. The news was first leaked on Charcuterie Sundays, the popular blog belonging to the Black Hoof. Seems that success has allowed them to expand and the cafe will be an extension (not replication) of their popular charcuterie restaurant. They've recently posted a video of the start of the demolition.
