What's open and closed on New Year's Day in Toronto 2012:
Closed
- LCBO and Beer stores
- Major grocery stores and most pharmacies
- Government offices and banks
- City of Toronto buildings
- Some shopping malls
Open
- The Eaton Centre will be open from 12:00 to 5:00 5 p.m.
- The Pacific Mall is open until 8:00 p.m.
- Major movie theatres
- Food Depot (155 Dupont), Bloor Superfresh (384 Bloor St W), and Rabba grocery stores
- Both the AGO and the ROM are open on New Year's Day (and on the following holiday Monday)
- Toronto's public skating rinks will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Restaurants
- The majority of restaurants will be closed, but as was the case during Christmas Chinatown remains a good bet on the first day of 2012.
Public Transit
- The TTC and GO Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule
