Jack Layton to receive state funeral in Toronto
Jack Layton will receive a state funeral in Toronto on Saturday, August 27th, 2011. Although further details have yet to be hashed out, City News reports that Councillor Pam McConnell has indicated that the location will be Roy Thomson Hall (as has been widely speculated this afternoon). According to the CBC, "the government protocol office is working with the NDP and family of the NDP leader on exactly what the funeral will be."

Update (7:50 p.m.):
Still no official details, but Prime Minister Harper has taken to Twitter to confirm that Layton will indeed have a state funeral, and that "Canadians will have an opportunity to salute Jack Layton's contribution to public life."
