TTC likely to be declared an essential service

The TTC will likely be declared an essential service by the end of March, when the Commission's three agreements with its transit workers expire. Although not a done deal yet, the province has estimated that Ontario's economy loses $50 million per day during TTC strikes, meaning the bill is unlikely to face major opposition. MPPs return from a legislative break on February 22, at which time debate will commence over the proposed bill. According to Citytv, "the government is also inviting all three unions who represent TTC workers to participate in the discussions over declaring it an essential service."
