New poll puts Smitherman and Ford neck and neck

Posted by Derek Flack / October 13, 2010

A new poll undertaken by Ipsos Reid for Newstalk 1010 puts George Smitherman and Rob Ford in a virtual dead heat in the Toronto mayoral race. The last poll, released approximately two weeks ago had Ford with a five per cent lead over Smitherman, but it would appear that Sarah Thomson's decision to drop out and support the latter's campaign -- not to mention the increased rhetoric that the Smitherman is the only candidate with a chance to beat Ford -- has brought the two candidates pretty much even.

Despite Mayor Miller's endorsement last week, Joe Pantalone's numbers haven't significantly increased. Rocco Rossi's numbers, meanwhile, have dwindled further.

Here are the main results:

  • George Smitherman - 31%
  • Rob Ford - 30%
  • Joe Pantalone - 11%
  • Rocco Rossi - 4%

Anyone else up for the South Park voting episode where "Giant Douche" goes up against "Turd Sandwich"?

Finally people are realizing they don't want a bigot for a mayor!! He does not even know what services the city provides or what part of the budget the city has control of, he is making many promises, billions in surplus, is he goiing to close all the libraries, recreation centres, tell us the truth Rob

Are you sure someone didn't vaguely mention he'd establish death panels too?

Smitherman supporters will be quick to point out how useless/unreliable polls are judging by the posts over the last few weeks.
Any minute now...

This is a safety issue! Just imagine the public risk if one of those gravy trains derails! People will be scalded with boiling-hot gravy! What will Swiss Chalet do?!

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yes. That's totally it.

How can people vote for a person whose only achievement was wasting (according to Attorney General) of 1 billion of taxpayers money. How much will he waste as a mayor of Toronto?
Even Miller may be better than him.

I found this site that describes what happened when someone mentioned Rob Ford's name at a Thanksgiving dinner in Toronto - seems like what might happen to our city if Ford gets in: http://robfordturkey.wordpress.com/

Stop spamming your blog, no one cares.

It appears they do care - 71 % of visitors to the blog say that Rob Ford ruined their Thanksgiving Turkey dinner - about the same percentage of Toronto's electorate that will not be voting for Rob Ford.
