Last record store on St. Clair set to close

Eye Weekly reports today that St. Clair West's last record store, Super Latin Music, is set to close its doors by the end of the year.

The store has been on St. Clair between Vaughan Road and Dufferin Street for 19 years, though dwindling clientele and Internet piracy is forcing the family-owned business to shut down.

Kyle Nunez, the storeowner's son, told Eye that their business was booming back in the '90s. "Every Friday we'd have new releases. We'd have lineups. Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez came out around '96, it was so good. Nobody was downloading back then. The new generation doesn't buy music at all." An official closing date has not yet been set.
