Toronto to launch Navy-themed waterpark

Posted by Robyn Urback / September 2, 2010

Mayor Miller, city reps and Navy officials unveiled plans today to create a Navy-themed waterpark and playground at Sir Casimir Gzowski Park at the west-end of the lake shore near High Park.

The Navy Marine Waterpark will be composed of three main parts: a ship with slides, spray nozzles and a radar dish dumping water to the deck below; a submarine with periscope for children to run through while being sprayed with water; and a nautical feature wall with portholes and spray jets. Yayyy combat!

The playground will feature a helicopter play structure with slides and an inclusive "play apparatus," whatever that means. There will also be an outdoor patio, picnic site, and commemorative walkway paying tribute to Navy history.

A fundraising campaign is being launched to build the park.

The only thing I'll remember about David Miller was his dedication to improve the waterfront. I've seen major improvements over the past 5 years and look forward to 2021. Nice work.

The problem with kids these days is they think the navy is all about war and violence and it's not. It's actually a lot of fun! Joining the navy is a great way to keep cool during a hot summer.

I mean, I hate to say no to a water park, but No. Can't they at least wait until my kids are in high school to target them for recruitment?
