Buyouts offered to the entire newsroom staff at the National Post

Although the details are scarce, J-Source is reporting that the entire newsroom at the Post has been offered buyouts and have until Friday to make a decision.

From J-Source:

"The entire National Post newsroom has been offered buyouts - and they have until Friday to accept, sources at the National Post confirm. Sources also say that there is no guarantee any employee applying for a buyout will receive one. The National Post denied comment."

More to come.

Update (5:30 p.m.)

A source at the Post has confirmed the buyout offer, but also that this isn't the first time that such a thing has happened. Near the time the company entered bankruptcy protection a similar voluntary offer was made to everyone on the Post's payroll.

This most recent offer went out on Friday, and due to its voluntary nature, was also sent to the entire staff of the paper. Given that the buyout was not imposed on staff, it's unlikely that significant changes will come as a result of this offer.
