Hotel strike looming

Posted by Robyn Urback / June 23, 2010

Workers at the downtown Novotel may walk off the job Thursday after contract negotiations broke off last night.

A French delegation is (was?) expected to stay at the hotel on The Esplanade for this weekend's summit. So you can add that to the list of G20 hiccups.

Earlier this month, unionized workers at 32 Toronto hotels voted in favour of strike action. However, at this time, only the downtown Novotel is in legal strike position. The union said it is likely that its 80 represented Novotel workers will walk off the job Thursday.

Tough break. Maybe there are some vacancies at the Jarvis St. Econo Lodge?
