Godspeed You! Black Emperor members to bless new Toronto music fest

Reporting on new festivals has become 99% of our music beat, but this one is pretty special to me. Local promoter Jason Pollard of Geary Lane and Invocation TO is bringing us the Sound SĂŠance Festival's taste of Montreal this June in association with lauded MTL fest Suoni Per Il Popolo (long a focus of many a Toronto music fan's jealousy).

The new fest will present three days of genre defying live music in Toronto including sets by Suuns, Jerusalem in My Heart, Wrekmeister Harmonies (featuring members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor), and Expo 70.

Also on the lineup for June 12-14's new psychedelic, experimental, and avant garde music festival are Off World (Sandro Perri's new project), Caro Diaro (Maicamia solo), Technical Kidman, and Toronto's Mimico, Dirty Inputs, Babel, Carl Didur, and Jay Holy, with more TBA.

So where is this new fest taking place? Like many wonderful things, it's a mystery for now.

The event was initially slated with indoor and outdoor installations at DIY hub Geary Lane, but Pollard tells us bylaw issues with the city may keep Geary shuttered to live music this summer. That would push the fledgling festival to share stages between "other like minded DIY spaces" and a "larger, more established venue."

The only thing certain is the the show must go on - this bridge to Montreal is too monumental to give up. "Suoni per il Popolo... opened my mind exponentially. I vowed to make something similar happen in my adopted city of Toronto one day and now we are working together to make that happen." Pollard says.

The news of Suoni Per Il Popolo reaching into Toronto comes on the heels of Luminato's announcement that Unsound will be landing in Toronto for the first time this year at abandoned power station the Hearn.

Sound SĂŠance will run from June 12-14 at TBA. Tickets will be available April 20th at Rotate This, Soundscapes, and Good Music.
