DJs battle for Ontario title at the Mod Club May 4th

Posted by Robyn Urback / May 1, 2012

Thre3styleIt's a question that has plagued Toronto — and the province — for eons. No, it's not subways versus streetcars, nor is it where to find the best pulled espresso in the city. No, that elusive question is none other than, "Who's the best party rocker in Ontario?" and it will be settled this Friday night.

Well that was exciting, wasn't it? The Mod Club will be hosting the Ontario finals of Red Bull's Thre3style competition on May 4th, when DJs from across the province will compete to be crowned the best of all music makers. The winner of this regional competition will go on to battle in the national finals in Halifax on May 26, where he or she will get a shot at $2500.

The night kicks off at 9p.m. and will feature special performances by DJ Makem, DJ Shub, DJ Jooce and more. Each competitor will have 15 minutes to prove his or her aptitude at "party rocking." Eight DJs will battle, one will move onto the nationals, and finally, Toronto will have its answer.

yeah, I'm not exactly sure when these contests changed from pure turntabalism to 'party rocking'. I guess it makes more sense to appeal to a wider crowd. Could a pure turntabalist still place well in one of these contests? Maybe I'm just out of touch with the kids these days......

Red Bull would probably sponsor your kids circumcision if you asked them to.

DJ Jooce from Hamilton is a former DMC champ.

DMCs still exist for pure turntablism.
