Sloan Concert Toronto

Hot Ticket: Sloan, NOFX, Teenage Bottlerocket, Old Man Markley, Hey Ocean!, Hands & Teeth, Whale Tooth, Joe Purdy, Milk Carton Kids, White Denim, The Static Jacks

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY JUNE 22 through TUESDAY JUNE 28, 2011.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 22 / SLOAN / MOD CLUB / 722 COLLEGE ST / $25.50 / 19+
With ten LPs and close to two hundred songs in their back catalogue, Sloan celebrates their twentieth anniversary by putting on two back-to-back shows this week at Mod Club. Expect a long set that takes you down memory lane with front-man and bass player Chris Murphy, and a huge rush of nostalgia when the boys from Halifax take the stage.

FRIDAY JUNE 24 / NOFX / KOOL HAUS / 132 QUEENS QUAY E / $25 / ALL AGES
Wyoming punk outfit Teenage Bottlerocket and LA's Old Man Markley open for one of the most successful punk bands of all time, NOFX, whose music spans nearly thirty years. And with eleven studio albums under their belt, the band - led by Michael Burkett (Fat Mike) - continue on their long successful journey in support of their latest EP The Longest. Their twelfth LP is scheduled for 2012.

SATURDAY JUNE 25 / HEY OCEAN! / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 370 QUEEN ST W / $12.50 / 19+
Vancouver's Hey Ocean! will soon drop their still yet-to-be-titled third LP. And as singer Ashleigh Ball hints, the next record will be more of a classic pop album instead of the folk, funk-pop their loyal listeners are used to. Locals Hands & Teeth and Whale Tooth (both fresh from their NXNE showcases) play their sets of indie-rock before Vancouver headliners Hey Ocean! warm their audience with playful sing-alongs and contagious energy.

SUNDAY JUNE 26 / JOE PURDY / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 370 QUEEN ST W / $15.50 / 19+
Arkansas folk-singer/songwriter Joe Purdy moves crowds with frolicking folk-rock tunes and emotional - songs that move like molasses and sound just as sweet thanks to Purdy's Southern vocal charms. Purdy offers songs for every mood and is sure to leave audiences stomping their feet and wanting more. Los Angeles' Milk Carton Kids open.

TUESDAY JUNE 28 / WHITE DENIM / THE GARRISON / 1197 DUNDAS ST W / $11.50 / 19+
Austin's White Denim received plenty of good karma when they released their third LP Last Day of Summer for free, and they're hoping for the same with their fourth LP D. New Jersey's The Static Jacks open before White Denim comes out and mesmerizes the audience with psychedelic jams, both mellow and introspective.
