The Antlers Live

Hot Ticket: Junior Boys, Miracle Fortress, Caribou, Young Empires, Freedom or Death, Okkervil River, Titus Andronicus, Future Islands, Architecture in Helsinki, Hooray For Earth, The Antlers and Little Scream

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY JUNE 8 through TUESDAY JUNE 14, 2011.

THURSDAY JUNE 9 / JUNIOR BOYS / PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE ST / $18.50 / 19+
Hamilton, Ontario's indietronic duo Junior Boys (Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus) are back in the city to headline another sweat-fest show at the Phoenix, this time in support of their newest record It's All True. Special guest Caribou will do DJ sets in-between openers Miracle Fortress and Junior Boys.

THURSDAY JUNE 9 / YOUNG EMPIRES / THE DRAKE HOTEL / 1150 QUEEN ST W / $12 / 19+
Freedom or Death opens for fellow locals and rising electro-pop band Young Empires at the Drake Hotel. Like their name suggests, Young Empires are fresh and new (about a year and a half in existence), but good grooves and solid performances pave limitless skies for the trio.

FRIDAY JUNE 10 / OKKERVIL RIVER / PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE ST / $19.50 / 19+
Okkervil River brings the visceral energy of their sixth LP I Am Very Far onto the Phoenix Concert Theatre stage, with new anthems, like album-opener "The Valley" and the waltz-like "Wake and Be Fine." At times quiet and restrained, at other times eye-opening and forceful, Okkervil River's tunes veer into different styles, winning attention at every turn. New Jersey's Titus Andronicus and Baltimore's Future Islands open.

SATURDAY JUNE 11 / ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI / MOD CLUB / 722 COLLEGE ST / $20 / 19+
Melbourne-based indie-pop outfit Architecture in Helsinki bring tunes from their fourth LP Moment Bends, their color-matched synths, and their eighties-inspired tracks onto the stage at Mod Club. Architecture in Helsinki have built a solid rep on quality upbeat vocal performances, high energy, catchy choruses, and even choreographed dances — if the audience is lucky. New York buzz-band Hooray For Earth starts.

TUESDAY JUNE 14 / THE ANTLERS / MOD CLUB / 722 COLLEGE ST / $17.50 / 19+
Montreal's Little Scream opens for The Antlers, who return to Toronto following the release of their highly-anticipated sophomore LP Burst Apart. Led by the falsetto of front-man Peter Silberman, The Antlers sing beautifully-crafted, ironically transcendent melancholia.
