Vfest 2008: Noel Gallagher of Oasis Attacked on Stage

Posted by Jerrold Litwinenko / September 8, 2008

Noel Gallagher of Oasis was knocked to the ground hard by a rogue fan at the Toronto Virgin Festival last night, while (somewhat ironically) singing "need a little time to wake up" - Morning Glory.

Check out the video, and about 1min30sec in:

Apparently the jackass evaded both Vfest and Oasis security staff before running on stage and pushing Gallagher to the ground. Security were quick to remove him, and within about 15 minutes the band was back on stage to finish their set, to a somewhat subdued audience.

Never a dull moment for Oasis.

Here's another angle - skip to about 35sec in:

After watching a second time, I noticed Liam's reaction... he wants a piece of the guy!

Oh darn. It's payback for being such an asshole.

If that guy hadn't attacked Noel, I'm sure his brother Liam would have by the end of the show anyways.

The other singer's reaction is hilarious. At first he skips away in fright, and only when the roadies have the guy securely in hand is he ready to start throwing punches. Where's Amy Winehouse when you need her?

Yeah, that's real hilarious. I'm sure the few thousand fans who paid good money to see the band a play full set also found it "hilarious".

(How's that for being "well organized" again?)

Thank god I didn't end up going. I went to the first VFest, only to see the closing act The Flaming Lips abruptly cut-off after 20 minutes, because the organizers let the previous acts drag on too long. Absolute bollocks.

Holy **** this was absolutely insane... I have been joking about the jerkiness of Oasis but no artist deserves this. How in the blood hell did this guy get past the security, which was SERIOUSLY beefed up?

I am so amazed that they came back out and played after this... I have so much respect for Oasis now.

yes real hilarious. I'm sure you would of told security to back off and you would take him on one one one right there on stage. give me a break.

Agreed. I wouldn't wish this on an artist I hated. Being hit from behind while performing on stage. That could have ended really badly, especially if Noel had gone off the stage head first.

It's sad that one person managed to ruin it for everybody....the crowd was getting more and more into before that creep got on stage. Both Noel and Liam kinda shut down after that and they just quickly went through the songs everyone was expecting to hear with no encore.
I'm impressed that Noel was the one to come out and perform solo after that. From where I was standing it looked like he fell down pretty hard.

'Oasis' spokesperson later confirmed that the guitarist "was taken to hospital after the show to be examined for a suspected fractured rib and ligament damage. The assailant was detained in police custody and will be charged with assault."'

With security being so tight before their set, it's a wonder how this guy got on stage in the first place. And then it was just a push, not a punch. As if he was just having fun disrupting the show, kind of like a streaker at a football match.

I wouldn't put it past Oasis to have staged the incident themselves.

Word on the street is that the assailant was a 47-year-old stained-glass artisan who lived in an island cottage. He could barely tolerate the ongoing terrorism of Porter airplanes and tiny Cessnas, but was pushed over the edge by that infernal rock music festival. He rode his cargo bike over to the festival and attacked Oasis to try and get some peace and quiet for his sacred island village.

I wouldn't put it past Oasis to have staged the incident themselves.

That's a bit of a stretch, don't you think? Clearly they were genuinely startled.

Big respect to the band for coming back on stage. They didn't have to, and 10 years ago they wouldn't have. No matter how much people hate them (or any band), that's scary shit being attacked like that...the guy could've had a knife, gun, or some other sort of weapon, and it could've turned out much worse.

Exactly. Remember what happend at that Pantera show a few years back. I wouldn't wish what happend last night to happen to any band or entertainier I disliked.

it's definitely a dick move for the guy to do what he di REGARDLESS of his reason. I was there, and not being a fan, I have new found respect for them because they came back to finish the show, despite with less energy. I was more than sure that they weren't going to finish the show given their reputation. I really really want to know how the guy went past all the security.

I think they would have been totally justified not coming back out and thought it was pretty professional of them to finish their set...

"I wouldn't put it past Oasis to have staged the incident themselves."

What? Seriously? (And you're a writer for this blog?)

I don't know much about the band, but I do know that they are quite fond of Canada (one of the brothers is married to a Canadian) which is why they agreed to do smaller shows in places like London Ontario (which has now been cancelled, for obvious reasons.)

I was one of the guys with the LUFC flag and when the Pigeon Detectives were playing their set, the security guards told us we couldn't stand at the front with our flag for safety reasons...then 1 hour later Noel Gallagher is attacked onstage..so that the message from V Fest...Dont bring flags but we'll let you get onstage to attack the acts!!
