Rotate This To Close, Move West
Rotate This, one of this city's best independent music stores, is packing up the vinyl and closing their doors later this month. The moving date is scheduled for May 28th.
But fear not, Rotate This fans. A new store will open on June 1st only blocks away in the old Songbird Music location at 801 Queen Street West.
The move is apparently prompted by the promise of cheaper rent in the new location; and maybe, just maybe, by the Tim Hortons rumoured to be opening in the old Queenshead pub.
I've also heard that upstairs from the new Rotate This will be a yet unnamed video store from the owner/manager of the Suspect Video that was destroyed in the Queen Street fire.

Those people are always so rude to customers, and they are the only ticket vendor in the city who have turned down our tickets - three times.
LOL. You guys need a refresher on record store clerk customer relations a la High Fidelity. They're rude, becuase they care.
I think that rather than moving bit by bit, Queen West should just rent a fleet of giant helicopters and land itself on some lesser neighbourhood.
i'm glad to hear the store is moving into a larger space. if you've ever been record shopping on a saturday afternoon, then you know what i'm talking about.
Soundscapes has better selection, lower prices and a more pleasant ambiance than Rotate. If only they sold records...
Rotate This staff aren't all that snooty, and for the few bad eggs among them the trick is to be the first to be vaguely contemptuous. They have no idea how to handle that, it throws them right off, and then BAM! that's when you ask them for the NKOTB tickets.
I do prefer Soundscapes though.
I asked for some tickets to some hip hop thing n the city and i got attitude from some hipster working there.
I just told him not to get his tapered MANTIES in a bunch.
He shut his little meathole real fast after that.
Nobody likes to go to that shabby place, but at least they sell records. I'll be the first to complain if they closed down and I never buy anything there.
So wait, an cultural elitist website is criticizing someone else for their cultural elitism?
(Except the first guy, he's just talking about himself again.)
I've always loved Rotate, turned me on to some great stuff over the years. And I've gone in there in a suit.
Then again, selling tickets is always shady business, which is why we only sell our tickets through one store now: Shanti Baba. They may be stoned but they are good at counting!
wait, blogto is culturally elitist? when did this happen? I bet it was the $3 cupcake review! pretentious pastry eaters
kevin why dont you try that to-tix place? they're friendly.
Thanks for the TOtix reminder! They have been pretty friendly when I've bought tickets there. Although they are so close to Play De Record.
Also, Rotate This' facade isn't all that bad, I actually do like their closed sign. It says, "Not tonight dear, you know my migraines." Hah
That skinny guy always eye @#$%'s me, but he always gives me tickets. I think he might be a batty.
Oh he eye fucks everybody. I'm a little ticked that i have to walk a few blocks further to get to rotate.
Hopefully the homeless will keep away. I got hit in the face wedneday after i came out of rotate.
I've never ever gotten attitude from any of the staff at Rotate, and I've shown up looking pretty biz at times. I always tend to think that people who get attitude from the staff probably are dispensing their own brand of attitude without realizing it.
"wait, blogto is culturally elitist? when did this happen? I bet it was the $3 cupcake review! pretentious pastry eaters"
You're not the brightest if you think being an elitist has anything to do with money.
maybe the staff act elitist because everyone makes fun of them for being hipsters.
attitude or not, those kids all have taste. and their favourite bands right now will be on our iPods next summer.
