We're all about virgins here on blogTO. And the total number has risen to 60!

Acts. 60 acts, that is, will be descending upon Toronto over September 8 and 9. And with the 47 acts suffocating the three stages that were already in place, a fourth stage has been added to the mix to force NXNE-like decisions to your day. New faces include Dragonette, k-os, The Postage Stamps, Liam and Me and The Most Serene Republic.

Don't have a ticket yet? Don't worry. We have two sets of two-day double passes to give away courtesy of Virgin Mobile. And one winner will also get two passes to hang out with the Tokyo Police Club. For a chance to win, join our Facebook Group because we'll be messaging all members next Tuesday with details how to win.

Ok. Now about the line-up. Decisions will need to be made; do you hit one of the mains to catch a sure-fire great show from Emily "I Wear a Fucking Skirt" Haines' Metric, or do you take a chance and check out the 10-20 singers of Bang Camaro cramming the stage? You won't have to worry about Amy Winehouse, as she's cancelled all her shows in September.

The updated Virgin Music Festival lineup lies, waiting for you, naked, rose petals scattered around and with strawberries and whip cream in tow after the jump.

The Rolling Stones may not be playing, but the new faces tagging along with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, Bjork, Interpol and The Killers do a great job of rounding out an already diverse two-day festival.

If you're wondering where the 60th band is, the slot will be filled by the winner of a contest currently happening at Heavy.com. There's more than a few "must see" acts in the list; MIA, Dragonette, Louis XIV, Pumpkins and Blonde Redhead will all be competing for my love.

Are musician contests worth it?

I ask because I just entered the Land in the Band contest (http://www.landintheband.com) where musicians can enter to win cash, prizes and the chance to join the Commodores on tour for a week as part of their band. (I entered as a drummer, natch, but pretty much any musician can enter.)

I checked it out, and it seems legit. Anybody else do this? Has anyone won something like this? Are the prizes worth it?

Thanks,
Jack

From my experience, and this may not be true of this one or all of them. Band contests are a way for bars to get live music for virtually nothing. On the plus side, depending on how much you (the band) put into promoting yourself, it's a chance to play where you might not normally get one as you are not "established". If you can bring in the bodies (friends, relatives) and show that you can keep a crowd going, sometimes you will get asked to play somewhere. At some point, all bands usually do them. If there really are prizes...bonus. Really, you have nothing to lose. Say Hi to Lionel for me if you win:- )

If you win it'll totally be worth it. If you lose I'll laugh at you hardcore for wasting your time. BWAHAHA!!!
