We Don't Need Pluto, We Have Galaxy -- Review

Posted by Mindi / October 29, 2006

Galaxy_October%2019.jpgI showed up at Galaxy's EP release party at Sneaky Dee's on Oct.19 and for pocket change the riot-girl trio gives a satisfying show.

Emma McKenna (vocals, guitar), Katie Stelmanis (vocals, guitar) and Maya Postepski (drums) watched the opening bands play, said hello to friends and fans, and acted not at all nervous.

Galaxy is true to the music they write and it reflects when they are on stage. McKenna and Stelmanis, both strong vocalists, are like twins echoing when they sing together.

Galaxy's music creates a haunting, magical sound, similar to the nowadays of Cat Power and old-style L7.

There's a level of intensity in the crowd with eyes glued to chord changes and crashes. People are attracted to Galaxy's pull and speed of music. With many tempo changes, it was stimulating to keep up with each beat. Girls were dancing while holding fists in the air and spilling beer on the floor.

Galaxy's EP has four songs: Pink Collar Holler, Hymn to the Little Things, Here Now and La Force. There are downloadable tracks on their myspace.
