Beats, Breaks & Culture @ Harbourfront Centre

Posted by MikeR / July 9, 2006

harbourfront_prefuse73_468.jpgIt's been a great weekend of free performances at the Harbourfront Centre. Prefuse 73 put on a solid performance, but the word on the street was that The Juan Maclean, Jamie Lidell and Cadence Weapon stole the show.

If you're not a World Cup or Molson Indie fan, you can still catch the last few performances ending around 6pm.

If anyone has photos, please add them to the BlogTO Flickr group. We'd love to see them!

I would have photos to add, but for the first time EVER Harbourfront security bullied my camera. For shame.

(And P.S. - Konono stole the show!! Congolese raves 4 lyfe!)

Konono was the best act by far. Jamie Lidell was boring as fuck. The real star in his show was his laptop. He's supposed to be this awesome singer, yet sang for about 10 minutes. The rest of the time he spent hunched over his mixer, bobbing his head like a DJ with Down's. If he wasn't wearing that awful robe, nobody would've even noticed he existed.

you must mean the juan mclean? or mstrkrft? because lidell was awesome.

mclean played for two minutes and mstrkrft were total lame-sauce. lidell beat-boxed, sang and was wearing a kimono not a robe. and i really don't understand anyone slagging his electronic stuff - it's called beats, breaks and culture, there's going to be an electronic component. sheesh. but, overall, agreed that konono was tops.
