Live Aid, er, 8 is comin' - start packing water

Posted by Tanja / June 16, 2005

june1605_liveaid.jpgIt's going to be World Youth Day all over again... but without the army of backpacks.

Bob Geldof has confirmed that Toronto is going to host one of the massive Live 8 concerts. Originally Ottawa was going to play host, but buckling under crowd control fear, its back to T.O. N
ow where's ol' Mel to call in the army?

Nothing official about location or lineup has been announced yet. The "big" press conference has been scheded for next Tuesday at 10am though. (No location for the press conference either...)

Naturally, it would seem like Downsview Park should be the place to hold such a show. At the same time, Canada Day celebrations are set for the previous day, so whether or not back-to-back shows can even be pulled off is causing problems.

When it comes to acts, plenty of rumours have been flying around about supposed performers that might be hitting the stage.

In the Canadian rumour zone we're talking Barenaked Ladies, Jann Arden and Our Lady Peace (they're still together?). On an international scope, many are speculating that the Stones might just come back for round two.

As for actually confirmed: according to CityTV's latest report, "reps for Billy Talent have already confirmed the group has been invited and will be there - wherever 'there' is."

I suppose it's safe to say, MORE TO COME...

Most of the artists performing at the live 8 concert in Toronto cater to a predominantly Caucasian crowd. Why is it that most of the other countries hosting the live 8 concert have artist of different genre. If Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world, should we not set an example?

THANK YOU GELDOFF ONCE AGAIN FOR THIS HELP! Im in Costa Rica but have become aware of this need thanks to this massive effort on your part. If I've become aware over here then its assured that the world in its entirety has been sucessfully reached and made aware of the dire situation. I can only pray now that the G8 recognizes its need to change their politics up to now and give instead of taking.
God bless you and your loved ones.
