It's scorching hot everywhere in the city of Toronto except those trusty, air-conditioned movie theatres. Why not take advantage of some cheap n' easy cool and make with the double bills?

Yesterday, my brother asked me what movies I'm most looking forward to seeing this fall. Surprisingly, I said: <i>The Prestige</i>, <i>The Fountain</i>, <i>The Children of Men</i>, <i>Black Dahlia</i>, and <i>The Departed</i>. You went four for five! =)

<i>Miami Vice</i> didn't quite appeal to me but it was somewhat enjoyable, but the script really ruined <i>Lady in the Water</i> for me.

Maybe I need to see it again.

I found Miami Vice to be sooo cheesy. What was with the sound track?

Funny... I can't remember the soundtrack at all... except for that first track that they used in the trailer. I missed the rest. That can't be a good sign, can it?

Sameer: you're totally right about The Departed. I haven't seen a trailer for it yet but it's definitely one to look forward to. The Aviator (Scorsese's last flick with DiCaprio) is a film I enjoy more and more with each viewing. The old dog's still got it in him...

Ah, and the best part of The Departed is that it's based on the 2002 Hong Kong film <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338564/";>Infernal Affairs</a>, one of my favorite movies to come out of the city in years. Tony Leung stole the show in that one, so let's hope DiCaprio does well in his role and that Boston is a good stand in for Hong Kong. I have full faith in Scorsese.

You've convinced we to rent the Village and go see Lady in the Water. I too am a big fan of M. Night Shyamalan's work (especially Unbreakable) but had begged off these flicks because of poor reviews...But now I suspect it's because of stodgy, misguided critics who don't get it.
