moviesTO #34: The End of the World

Al Gore, who used to be the next president of the United States, surprises all by taking a strong stand in the forefront of environmental issues with his film, An Inconvenient Truth, which aims to expose the "debate" about global warming as the nefarious machinations of the omnipresent American industrial machine, which may just lead to the end of life on earth. Sound like fun? Surprisingly, it is.
Today's podcast includes:

i found gore quite charismatic, but the parts of the film i found least engaging were actually the parts that dealt with him and his life: his enviro-speech was much more captivating.
good analysis on the format wars, i have a strong intuition that blu-ray's going to take it in the end, but i'm not rushing into buying either format anytime soon.
i noticed you didn't say anything about luc besson's (well, actually pierre morel's) district 13, which opened in toronto this past friday. it was amazing, but i've come to expect that from besson (apart from a very few mistakes he's made in the past).
nice to see linklater being included into the criterion collection; i'm definitely looking forward to a scanner darkly coming out later this summer.
