Morning Brew: Rob Ford might get a driver, the mayor takes a working holiday, the best bathroom in Canada, and decoding the CN Tower's light show
In light of his recent antics behind the wheel, councillor Doug Ford says city council might force Rob Ford to hire a driver if he refuses to make the decision himself. A chauffeur would definitely be considered gravy and counter to Ford's frugal policies if the cost was to be passed to taxpayers. Still, it looks like the final decision could be out of the mayor's hands.
Meanwhile, Rob Ford himself has skipped town for Alberta and a working vacation in Edmonton. The Star spoke with a local man who picked up the Toronto mayor and his wife on their way to The Big E's city hall.
The singer of the "Everyone loves Marineland" jingle wants her voice pulled from the TV adverts after a story published in the The Star yesterday alleged many animals were suffering in poor conditions. A former employee of the attraction claims poor water quality and other factors have lead to poor conditions for animals.
If you're anything like Seinfeld's George Costanza, you already know where to find the best public bathrooms in the city. For the rest of us, there's Canada's Best Restroom award, for which two Toronto conveniences are shortlisted. The facilities at Earls, a restaurant on King Street, and This is London, a club on Richmond Street, will face off against national competition in November.
Finally, as you may have noticed, thin slithers of larger images are projected against the antenna and elevator shaft of the CN Tower at night. Reddit user space_coconut used a special technique to extract the full set of images projected by the tower's lighting software and create a video:

Simply put, he's a bad driver and that won't change overnight.
Regardless of the cost, it's in everybody's best interest that he receives a driver before it results in injury for the Mayor or for others.
Meanwhile, it's all well and good that the Star has a vendetta against Marineland, but they better not be doing it to push Ripley's... It's all a bit too conveniently timed.
Besides, as the article points out, she was hired to sing a jingle and in return for the payment she received she willingly signed away any and all rights she had in regards to how that jingle is used, including the right to "demand" that it not be used if she was no longer thrilled to be associated with Marineland. In other words, her request is nothing more than an empty gesture to make herself look good to the public. I see she has a concern coming up soon - good way to generate some publicity and boost ticket sales perhaps?
I'm sure she is genuinely concerned about the welfare of the animals at the park and such, but if she is so appalled as to speak out and ask that the jingle not be used, I have to wonder what kind of due diligence she performed when she initially agreed to sing the jingle in 2004? Did she ask any questions about the conditions at Marineland when she agreed to do the jingle? My guess? Probably not. She's a working musician and probably needed the cash. Nothing wrong with that of course, just seems a little self-serving to raise a heckle about it now.
