Morning Brew: It's campaign time for the Fords, another missed snowstorm, ZED.TO hopes to launch here, and library workers close to stoppage

Posted by Brianne Hogan / February 25, 2012

TorontoTurns out there's more to Doug and Rob's new radio talk show than just a couple of guys chatting about football and stuff. Apparently it's all part of a "comeback strategy" to get Rob reelected, which will include "pounding" emails and robocalls (since those are so great). Stop. Breathe. Imagine Ford as mayor in 2016.

I don't usually like to use the term "epic fail" but that's exactly what happened yesterday with Snowmaggedon Part 2. School buses and Bixi were cancelled all for naught thanks to forecasts calling for a big blizzard with 10 cm of snow that never happened. So what gives, weather people? Apparently a degree or two makes a whole lot of difference. And some good news: the city's saved between $4-5 million thanks to our lack of winter. Maybe we can divert snow clearing costs to suburban subway building?

Most local news outlets have a hard time securing a one-on-one interview with our mayor (ahem, the Star) but a seven year old girl had no trouble at all. The meeting was a Christmas gift for Carmen Ozgo, a grade two student, who apparently asked for it herself. She spent about a minute with the mayor, asking him such hard-hitting questions as "which school did you go to to become a mayor?" If only there were such a school.

Ready for some end-of-the-world role play? ZED.TO, an alternate reality game, is running a IndieGoGO campaign to raise money so they can install site-specific apocalyptic installations across Toronto over eight months, including possible stints at Nuit Blanche and the Fringe Fest. Well, it is 2012 after all...

Silly question! There's no rule for what to study to become mayor of Toronto. You could go directly to work force after grade 12, go to Harvard for Economics then U of T Law, or drop out of Carleton after first year before taking six continuing education courses at York.

Bet AM640 are fuming because they really backed Rob Ford to become mayor. Doubt we'll hear interviews with Ford anymore. Ford sure backstabbed them!

It's an extreme conflict of interest to serve and get paid by the public and get a second job like that. It's high time taxpayers should stand up and CUT the salaries of the politicians by 75%, then Ford is could then, and only then, be justified supplementing his salary at a lame am radio station.

So, Rob Ford's only a year and a half into his term, and is already focusing on getting re-elected.

American-style politics, indeed.

If we all turn out to actually cast votes next time around, dicks like the Fords won't be elected.
