I just have to say this place is where you want to go when your tired of the usual pretentious salons in Toronto. Its raw and balls to the wall cool over there in a very unpretentious area. You want really cool hairstylists who talk about everything while listening to AC/DC? You got it. Thanks Glam for all the coolness you bring to T.O!

Daina @ GLAM gives good head... massages that is!!! The best part about getting my hair done (aside from the kick-ass colours and creative cutz) is the great relaxing scalp massage!! Your in good hands at GLAM!!! I've seen from the classics to uber trendy they can really do it all! If you are even a little unhappy with your current stylist - You must go - I promise you won't be dissapointed!

I was so pissed after I had a bad hair cut in an Asian salon a long time ago. After that my hair never looked good. Finally I decided to go to GLAM. I requested Kat and once she did her job. She is a very cool person. The hair cut awesome. I loved it. She knows what she is doing.

I have to say I cant believe how many girls from the gym and everywhere hit on me, the very day. Almost every one said my hair cut rocks and my bald buddy said he is jealous cuz he cant have a haircut like that lmao. I highly recommend GLAM.

I have been to a few salons in the city after re-locating here from Chicago. I was really happy with the haircut I got from Daina. She was very patient and really took the time to get to know me, which in turn showed in the haircut she gave me. Above all, I actually had alot of fun while I was there

After going to the same stylist for about 10 yrs. I called to make an appointment with her and was devastated to hear that she just decided to stop cutting - no notice! I tried a higher priced place near home and was disapointed - then I found Kat. She did an amazing job with my cut and the colour was vibrant and creative. Daina also did 2 awesome cuts while I was sitting there with goop on my head. Great conversation, great hair...just great gals. I'll definately be a regular.

Kat styled my whole bridal party & myself's hair (5 in total) & she did it in about 2 hours and everytime I look at my pictures I am so happy with the turnout. If you really want to look wicked for your prom, shell out a bit of money and get Melissa to do your make-up. With those two combined you'll be the center of attention at your prom I bet.

how do they do w/short cuts...? Technique/creativity?

Ash / July 2, 2009 at 11:43 PM

I think Kat knows her hair-cutting stuff and is very creative, she just didn't listen and therefore gave me the worst, most traumatizing haircut of my life. Short version: I was super excited to finally be growing my hair out after a couple of years of having it short (my version of short is mid jaw to chin length). I could almost pull it back and was stoked and Kat proceeded to thwack thwack and cut my hair (on only one side of my head to an inch or 2). I basically ended up with an emo mullet on one side of my head which is not at all what I wanted or asked for. I think she took me to be a bit more adventurous than I was feeling even though I was very specific with what I wanted.

My hair has just now grown back to chin length on that side of my head (1 year and 5 months later!) and I am terrified to get it cut again although since Kat I've gone to Greatful Head and not had my hair destroyed.

So if you are really adventurous and don't care about the result Glam might be the place for you, but if you're pretty specific you might want to go elsewhere.

I recently decided to get a post-breakup ego-boost haircut, but having never had a professional cut/colour, I scoured the internet for salon reviews. I chose Glam mainly because of the comments above. I contacted Daina who said she was honoured to help me out and booked me soon afterwards. When I first came in, I was still feeling a little down, but she was super-cheerful and dedicated 3.5 hours to my hair. Both she and Kat worked on a few more satisfied customers in between...some edgy, some classic. As Daina started snipping away and I relayed my boy drama, both she and Kat were kind enough to remind me that I could (and will) do better. By the time she was finished, my attitude had changed completely! These girls are professional, talented and committed to making their clients happy. I've had several compliments on my new look. Overall, I would definitely recommend Glam.

Just here to post some more love for GLAM! I went today and had a cut with Daina - super awesome! Not only is the cut awesome, Kat and Daina are just fun and nice people. None of that awkward silence you get with other stylists. GLAM is also well priced - it's a place that I can afford to go to regularly and consistently, unlike many other "top" salons. Yay!

All that glitters is GLAM. I've been looking about a year for a new stylist and finally found Kat...SO GLAD I took the leap. I came in with a specific style in mind but she took the time to go over the pros and cons even with her hectic schedule. I ended up with a cut I love. The atmosphere is laid back and both stylists are super friendly. For those in search of an amazing cut give GLAM a go...definitely, a 'diamond in the rough' of salons.

I chose this salon based purely on the feedback/rating from BlogTO users, lots of positives, little in the negative.
My previous Salon cut had been at Shagg Salon on Yorkville where I had received a cut which I had been initially happy with but over the month that followed I realized was not so much to my liking, thus I had decided for my next cut to try another Salon for comparison, that being Glam Salon.
I can attest to the ongoing voicemail problems at Glam, not receiving a response to my voice message for a few days over the course of a weekend (closed mondays, got a call back tues afternoon).
My appointment was with Kat. Be warned that they are app't only, meaning they open shop 5 mins before your scheduled app't. I went there on a rainy day and there is nothing in the area to keep you occupied/sheltered so don't come early!
My mens cut ended up being 30% cheaper than Shagg Salon ($40 vs $60) but I only spent half the time in Glam that I did in Shagg (45 vs 90 mins). My cut ended up looking nice in the salon, but 1 month later I have not had a single day where I could recreate my initial Glam good hair experience. The bangs on the sides of my head were not symetrical (Kat's design choice), eventually I ended up using dollarstore scissors on the bangs to even them out and giving me a better looking cut.
Since I value BlogTO users opinions I have provided an honest assessment of my experience to contribute the overall community view of Glam Salon.

Just wanted to post a special thank you to Daina for doing such a great job on my vintage hairstyle for my wedding on November 15th! I had gone to two other stylists for trials who both told me it would be "impossible" with my hair and proceeded to give me country-singer styles that made me want to cry. I checked out this blog and decided to give the ladies at Glam a call. Met with Daina and she was so confident about the do that she didn't even need a trial - she just did it perfectly on the day. It worked out fabulously and did not cost me an arm and a leg! It was just perfectly old-school glamourous and not overstated. Went absolutely perfectly with the vintage theatre coat and necklace I got from Cabaret. She did a great job. Highly recommend Daina. Thanks again!

Quite possibly one of the best hair cuts I ever had. Kat was very nice and friendly. She gave me her profesional opinion on my hair- then listened when i told her im a nerd and need to look good at my computer desk. She took good care of my cow-licks and now no one knows I have them.

First time at Glam, and it was much more than I expected. I did some research on this site, and this seemed to be the salon with the most positive comments. And now I see why! Kat was awesome and super friendly! I've had long hair since I was a kid, and a lot of it. At other salons I've been to (mostly in malls), every hair stylist would seem discouraged that I had too much hair. It made me feel bad and hopeless that I couldn't get a haircut that I would be completely satisfied with. Kat was the first person to actually be happy that I had lots of hair and commented on how it could work with my face structure. That already was a good start. I got an awesome short hair cut and couldn't be happier! A look I'm sure I will keep for a long time.

Kat rocks and will definitely be a loyal customer!

If politicians listened to their constituents the way Daina listens to her customers there would be understanding and perhaps peace. Until then, there is great hair.

A heartfelt thanks to Daina - you listen and THEN you cut. I'm delighted.

After reading these rave reviews I booked Kat for a cut. I have straight shoulder length hair and all I needed was a trim and some layers put back in. She was great as far as personalities go, very kind and very comfortable to be around...but then she cut my hair.

Worst. Haircut. Ever.

I would love to be able to say she was amazing, but I was shocked at what an awful job she did for such an easy cut! The "layers" were not blended at all. She basically trimmed the bottom layer and then grabbed the top layer and cut it about an inch shorter than the underside...ghetto-max. It was horrendous.

When I went for my next haircut at a new place, the stylist asked me who on earth had cut my hair previously as it was so poorly done and wasn't even from one side to the other.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!

just got my hair done @ GLAM aka "The Hair Saloon"

Kat is SOOOOOOO nice! I hate to say it.. BUT this was my worst dye job EVER. I asked Kat for a natural looking dark base color with purple and platinum blonde peekabos. My hair is now jet black, some purple/indigo highlights and NO blonde.

I washed my hair and SO much purple color washed out. Hope the colors dont fade otherwise I would have paid $1xx for nothing..

I saw Daina doing AMAZING haircuts though. So, the reviews are right about that
Guess I'll be going back to my Asian salonist

my peekabos are actually a BLUE color..

I see all these awesome reviews....I have to ask....

I KNOW perms are not really 'In' nowadays but I truly long to have curly hair. I have thick, wavy, shoulder-length hair that just sits there. So I'm looking for someone who knows how to work those perm rods and lotions...if perms haven't gone extinct yet!
Any feedback? Anybody?

Thanks!!

I wan't to go blonde but I'm really not sure since a few hairdressers have seriously messed up my hair from that process. Regardless it's current state is mid-length, dark brown with some highlights. Just wondering about how much that would run for. :)

It only took 10 mins in the chair at Glam to remind me why I had spent over a decade avoiding professional salons.

It isn't that the hair cut I ended up with is horrible. It's average. The problem is that it in no way represents what I asked for. I'm sure someone would like this hair cut but that person isn't me.

I keep playing the conversation over in my mind. Trying desperately to figure out where I went wrong. Hoping to unravel the mystery of where what I asked for turned into what I got.

I said I didn't wanted to lose too much length. That I only needed it cleaned up so it would style easier. Now my sides are like a buzz cut and the top sticks straight up. I pleaded for her not to add product but she seemed incapable of letting me out of the chair without a dab.

I blame myself really. Who else can I blame?

Maybe it was my hair's fault. Maybe she had to cut it down so far to fix the mess I've created after 10 years of amateur haircuts. But if that was the case why didn't she tell me my request was un attainable. Why didn't she mitigate my expectation?

Ah, who am I kidding....I knew this would happen. This is why I stopped going to salons in the first place - and yet here I am at a salon expecting it to be different.

I was once told that the definition of crazy was to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. I guess that's me, a crazy person.

As a side note, they were very nice at Glam and it is certainly a cool little shop.

The only problem is that they suffer from the exact same problem I've experienced at every fucking hair place in Toronto- You get the cut they want not what you want.

So here I am whining like a baby on the internet and feeling misunderstood, vandalized and stupid for repeating the same mistakes.

Getting straight to the point, here is a summary of my horrible experience at Glam:

1) Asked for my roots done and a toner. While I wanted white blonde, Daina left the toner on too long and my hair turned gray.

2) My roots were a completely different colour than the rest of my hair - orange.

3) The cut was horrible, I had to keep asking for her to fix it and thin it out, as it looked like a limp limb hanging off my face.

4) After redoing my roots and toning (twice), my hair is still gray and yellow - with my scalp being the sorest it has ever been.

I saw Kat and I have to say, I was blown away by how good my hair looks, also I can style it myself when i get home and it looks almost as if I just left the salon.
The environment was laid back which is very relaxing, I didnt feel like i was in a hair factory at all. The girls are very friendly and it felt like a hangout with all the other customers. They also give free bang trims.

Im hooked!

I've been going to Glam now for a little over a year (maybe longer) and I have to say I love it. Kat and Daina are so welcoming and make you feel like your at home when your in the salon. They are very friendly/chill/fun girls who know how to have a conversation and know what their doing.

I get my hair cut by Kat and I tend to change the look of it few times are year. Each time I get a new cut or trim, Kat never fails and always manages to make it look AMAZING! I have never had a bad hair cut with Kat, she is extremely consistent and always knows what to do to make my hair look great. She is definitely the best hairdresser I've been to and one of the best in Toronto.

I would highly recommend this salon to anyone who wants their hair to look amazing; both girls are extremely talented and will definitely leave you with a smile on your face.

Your the best Kat :)

Glam is by far the best experience I have ever had at a salon. After numerous (horrible) experiences at Aveda I decided to try this place since I walk by it almost every day. Daina did an absolutely amazing job on my dye and highlights, and I constantly receive compliments on my hair. She listened to exactly what I said I wanted and literally gave me everything I asked for and more. Both Kat and Daina are extremely friendly, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
