Messa CounterMessa Bites has moved to Dundas West. Located in a sweet corner spot formerly home to Model Citizen, this cafe meets cookie emporium will be familiar to fans who flocked to their now-shuttered Mount Pleasant digs for cookies creatively iced with things like flowers, birthday cakes, bunnies, hearts, golf balls, baby bottles (see below) and wedding dresses.

A quick look at their web site shows that I'm just scratching the surface with these examples. What husband and wife team Vera and Michael Costa can do with a cookie is really endless. They're all made with natural ingredients and can be shaped and designed for any occasion. Christmas, Canada Day, a corporate event....I could go on, but I won't. For a more in depth look, check out this three month old post by the team at TasteTO (no relation to blogTO).

But Messa, which opened their doors last Saturday, is more than just cookies. Walking into the new space for the first time a few days ago I could easily have missed the fact they specialize in cookies at all. The only evidence were a variety of already decorated options on a shelf near the front window.

Instead, the new Messa screams cafe. There's coffee, tea, grilled cheese sandwiches, date squares, Portuguese custard tarts, ice cream, fresh-squeezed juices and flourless chocolate cake.

But seating options are limited. There are a few stools to gaze at the streetcars through the big front window. Construction is just starting on a side patio which should be complete sometime later this summer.

Their sweet treats are amazing, love the grilled sandwiches, good prices, good music and good old Sicilian ice cream. Their iced cookies are really cute. The couple who owns it are really nice.

Finally I found them, I was looking for the cookies but noticed they moved locations. Good espresso.

They make great grilled paninis and where do you get a real 2 bucks iced latte...

Well, as of January 2009, this place is closed for good.

They were never open! I tried to go repeatedly. They were closed for weeks at a time on vacation, and had very few hours each day that they were open, even when they weren't on vacation.

Failure due to stupidity of owner is how I'm marking this one down in my book. You have to be open in order to earn money in order to stay in business.

I met with Messa bites last year in May. I placed a order for my sons 1st birthday celebration that took place in New York City.
The cookies were amazing, and the presentation was remarkable. I still have family members talking about them. They have never seen anything like this in the states. We will be their clients now and always. I will be visiting them soon, for my sons 2nd birthday.

PS...My husband and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their new location!

If you would like to see photos, I would be more than happy to show you....just write. Thanks.

Funny article "Deadpool", obviously they made their own hrs b/c they had other businesses on the go. I still keep in touch with them as I used their business for my restaurant. Their cookies have boomed, they do wholesale, country wide shipping and are super busy. As for the location it wasn't up to par with their quality product and lower clientele...
