Oxford Fruit
Kitty corner to the now closed J&J Fruit Market, Oxford Fruit is still thriving in the heart of Kensington. Boxes of fresh fruit pushing out to the curb at Nassau & Augusta. Every produce place has their magic number, and at Oxford it's $1.29/lb.

If you'd like to prevent the 'lame-ness' of future lists, it's worth nominating your favourites when it's poll time (the Best Ofs are based on reader votes).
I might get some of the store names wrong here (but the locations are solid): Kensington produce at St. Andrew and Kensington is consistently good for freshness, price and selection; Sun Wah at Augusta and Baldwin has probably the best price-quality balance in the market if you're on a budget; the Baldwin and Kensington guy is open 9-9 and has some nice stuff, though not always the cheapest; and 4 Life Naturals at Augusta and Nassau, right across from Oxford Fruit Market, is hands-down the winner for local/organic and has The Best Music in Kensington any day of the week. (BTW, anyone know why Oxford Fruit is called Oxford Fruit when it's at Nassau and Augusta, not Oxford?)
(cross-posted to the general Top 10 Fruit/Veg entry)
PS I don't want to nominate anything, only kvetch ;P
And about Oxford Fruit, one last thing: While the store generally carries good, fresh produce, I find it in general more expensive than most competitors, with fewer locally grown options. But the family that runs it is a nice bunch and the store has carved out its place in the Kensington produce wars and does its thing well -- I'm glad they stay in business, but as a local, it's one of the last places I stop for produce, not the first.
this would have been a handy link to include from the get-go -- "breadcrumbs" concept. I haven't read the other entries that consist of a top 10-style index with separate pages for each business, but I suspect the same good sense could be applied to those blogTO entries/indices, too.

I guess Nassau Fruit and Augusta Fruit just don't have the same ring to it. =)
Sorry, I don't really have anything in the ways of great commentary to offer here; I don't shop here enough to give a fair statement. I just felt really compelled to comment on this non-oxford-street revelation.
