The Nutty Chocolatier's Got the Brit Chips

june2706_nutty-chips.jpgLamb & Mint. That's right, there's a flavour you don't see everyday... unless of course you live in the UK (in which case they wouldn't be chips at all -- they'd be crisps, but I digress).

The Nutty Chocolatier on Queen West in Trinity Bellwoods imports these Walkers chips and others like Roasted Chicken, Spicy Chili, Beef & Onion, and Salt & Shake to name a few. Usually they're a little over a buck a pop, and I hold back, but with a 5 for $5 sale on last week it came time to try 'em all.

Lamb & Mint came out on top while Beef & Onion left an aftertaste I'd rather forget. Would I trade our Canuck Ketchup flavour (recently ruined by Lays) for it? Probably not, but let me say, it was oddly tastier than it sounds.

Of course, the Chocolatier carries things other than chips, but I haven't got much of a sweet tooth. If you do (and you know you do) check out these sweet import and in-house items:

Am I the only one who remembers some wacky experiment in the late 70s when Hostess (or was it Lays) tried out fruit flavour potato chips? Grape and cherry were memorable - but not really in a good way.

Wow HanoiMark, that does sound gross. Do grapes go with potatoes? NO.

Anyone know where in the city one can buy a CANDY APPLE? A frinds of mine had a birthday recently and I searched high and low to no avail.

The Walker's sweet thai chili crisps rock. My wife and I became addicted to them in London last year.

Jerrold there is a place in the downtown underground Path, in the World Food Market near TD Center (by the Kitchen Table produce market that's down there), called something Mountain something that carries nuts & chocolate gifts and has HUGE chocolate / carmel / nut / candy covered apples on sticks.

(*Sorry I can't be more specific than that, but I hate the Path).

Glad to hear the yet-to-be-opened bag of lamb and mint I recently bought in the UK wasn't a waste of 30p...

The store you are thinking of is the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company.

YES YES YES! Finally, I have been telling people for years about orange, grape and strawberry chips that appeared for, like, a summer when I was a kid. NOBODY has ever said they remembered...i was beginning to think it was just a dream...or a nightmare as the case may be...

you can't even find any evidence online...i figured it was a neighbourhood experiment...I lived in the east end of Toronto, what about you Hanoi?

thank you HanoiMark...you have saved my sanity!

Candy apples can be found at the Lower level of the St. Lawrence Market at Eve's Temptations. Tell him the Selsi Salt girl sent you :)
